
Racine- Evelyn Catherine (nee: Kothe) DeGroot, 82, passed away peacefully on Monday, August 27, 2007 at Lakeshore Manor. A lifetime resident, Evelyn was born in Racine on April 11, 1925 to the late Herman and Verna (nee: Harter) Kothe. She graduated from William Horlick High School in 1943. On June 26, 1948 in St. Patrick Catholic Church, Evelyn was united in marriage with the love of her life, Edward L. DeGroot, who preceded her in death on December 15, 2004. Catholic by faith, Evelyn had been a devoted member of St. Mary, St. Paul the Apostle and St. Lucy Catholic Church. She truly loved spending time with her family and friends. Surviving are her children, Cindy (Dennis) Goffe, Jeff (Susan) DeGroot, Peggy Ystenes, Jon (Donna) DeGroot, Lesley (Scott Simon) DeGroot, and Jennifer (Bruce) Shawhan; grandchildren, Shelly (Scott Wojczynski) Webber, Megan (Scott) Bednar, Danielle (Don) Mau, Stephanie (Luke Kline) DeGroot, Adam (Amy) Ystenes, Kristi Ystenes, Zachary and Ethan Shawhan; great-grandsons, Elliot Bednar and Max Wojczynski; sisters, Dorothy (Edward) Kuzia, Jane (Dick) Martin, and Karen Berger; brothers, Orv (Geri) Kothe and Roy (Charlotte) Kothe; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Geraldine (Gil) Zimprich, Wayne Frayer, Ray (Rosemary) DeGroot, Bernice Sullivan, Joan DeGroot, Joan Seitz, Marion DeGroot and Vivian DeGroot; and by many special nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends too numerous to mention by name. In addition to her parents and husband, Evelyn was preceded in death by her infant daughter, Jill DeGroot; sisters, Gertrude Kothe and Lorraine (Paul) Weisner; brother, Don Kothe; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Evelyn Frayer, Tony Berger, Gerald DeGroot, Richard DeGroot, Eleanor (Bud) Arentz, Paul Sullivan, Donald Seitz and Donald DeGroot. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, August 31, 2007 at 10:30 am in St. Lucy Catholic Church, 3101 Drexel Ave., with Rev. Mark R. Jones officiating. In accordance with Evelyn’s wishes, private interment will be held at the S. WI Veterans Memorial Cemetery. Visitation will be in the funeral home on Thursday from 5-7 pm and in the church on Friday from 9:30 –10:30 am. In memory of Evelyn, memorials to the American Parkinson Disease Assn. or to St. Lucy Catholic Church have been suggested. A heartfelt note of thanks to the entire staff at Lakeshore Manor for the compassionate care and support that was so warmly extended during the past two months. You were truly her “guardian angels”.

Jeff, our deepest condolences to you and your family over the loss of your mother. While it was anticipated and a blessing it is never an easy thing to deal with when it actually does happen.
