Florence H. Osius

Jan 25, 1916 – Mar 15, 2014

~~     Florence H. Osius, 98, passed away in the Aurora Medical Center- Kenosha on Friday,
March 15, 2014. She was born in Racine on January 25, 1916, the daughter of the late John R. and Winifred (nee: Watts) James.
Mrs. Osius was a graduate of Washington Park High School. On April 25, 1954, in St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church, she was united in marriage to Frederick M. Osius, who preceded her in death on April 25, 1981. She was a devoted member of Plymouth Congregation Church for over 60 years. Mrs. Osius was also a member of the Atonement Lutheran Church Senior Citizen Group for 38 years, the Lighthouse Lacers Craft Group for 27 years, the Racine Theatre Guild’s Children’s Theatre, St. Luke’s Hospital, and a public television supporter for over 50 years. She was a strong spirit who did let not the many challenges of her life dampen her zest for life and its’ wonders. She remembered the Flu Epidemic of 1918, the Great Depression, World War II, the Birth of Television, the Cold War, the Civil Rights Movement, Rock and Roll, Vietnam, the Worldwide Web, the Great Recession, and the New Millennium. Throughout she remained engaged, enthusiastic, and opinionated. She had a wonderful capacity for love, empathy, and adventure. She graduated from high school, learned to drive, worked, got married, raised three children, cherished two grandchildren, and buried her father, mother, husband, brothers and sisters, including her beloved sister, Harriett. She traveled throughout the United States as well as Norway, England, Ireland, Spain, Morocco, Hong Kong, China, Mexico, Canada, and Australia. She kissed the Blarney Stone in Ireland and rode a camel in Morocco. She was loved by many. We have lost our center, our light.
Surviving are her children, Victoria M. Osius, of Chicago, Therese A. Osius, of Racine, Kenneth J. (Christy) Osius, of Naples, FL; grandchildren, James T. Isaacson and Helen A. Osius, both of Chicago; brother-in-law, Timothy (Rose) Osius; nephews, John James, and Dennis Houk, both of Racine; and great nephew, Joseph (Sarah) Houk, of Merrill. In addition to her parents and beloved husband, Mrs. Osius was preceded in death by her sisters, Harriet (Joseph) Mertens, Ethel (Carl) Heuer, Phillippa (George) Rusch, and Estella Chisolm; brothers, Arthur (Udine) James, and John James; and niece, Marianne Houk.
Her funeral service will be held in the Plymouth Congregation Church, 1143 College Ave, on Thursday, March 20th, at 1:00 p.m. with Rev. Glenn Lawson officiating. Visitation will be held in the funeral home on Wednesday, March 19th, from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. and in the Church on Thursday, from 12 o’clock noon until the time of the service. In keeping with Mrs. Osius’ wishes, cremation will follow. For those who wish, memorials may be directed to NAMI, the A.S.P.C.A., or the Wisconsin Humane Society-Racine Campus.
The family would like to thank everyone at the Aurora Kenosha Medical
Center, including the doctors, and nursing staff for their efforts, kind-
ness, respect and deep concern for our mother and our family.
