Gary T. Gage

Sep 6, 1953 – Jan 10, 2015

Burlington – Gary T. Gage, 61, passed away in a fatal traffic accident on Saturday, January 10, 2015. He was born in Racine on September 6, 1953, the son of Meredith “Bud” and Gretchen (nee: Ford) Gage. Gary was a 1971 graduate of JI Case High School.

Gary was a well-respected member of the Racine County Sheriff’s Department for 23 years, retiring in 2012. Among Gary’s many passions was his love of guns, aviation, travel, astronomy and the outdoors. Gary was a lifetime member of the EAA; the NRA; and also an Audubon Society member. Gary loved nothing more than a good meal, a good whiskey, and good company. He was known to always have a good story to tell, and was a good friend to all that knew him.

Gary is survived by his parents, Bud (Gloria) Gage of Racine, and Gretchen Gage of Las Vegas; daughter Jennifer Gage in Minnesota; his best friend and companion Gloria Gage of Burlington; brothers and sister, Tobin (Vickie Schommer) Gage of McHenry, Illinois, Timothy Gage and Lisa (Dennis) Stewart both of Racine. He will also be missed by Gloria’s children, Robert Brook of Racine, and Charlene Mayorga of Burlington; and six grandchildren; his nieces Julie Hadlock, Sarah Deleeuw, Nicole Raffini, and Katie Raffini; his nephews Todd Gage, Eric Gage, and Sam Stewart; as well as many other relatives and friends.

Complete services will be held in the funeral home on Friday, January 16, 2015. Visitation with the family will be from 3pm – 6:30pm, followed by a memorial service with Rev.Stephen D. Samuelson officiating. Memorial donations to the Audubon Society; or the National Rifle Association – Institute for Legislative Action (NRA-ILA) have been suggested

I just learned of Gary’s untimely passing. We were schoolmates since the 6th grade. He was always bright, and had a fun side to him. We re-connected when he was working with a special unit of the Sheriff’s Dept & I was a County Social Worker. He was great to work with & respectful to all. My sympathies to his family & his “family” at the Sheriff’s Dept. Gary, may you rest in peace.

I could write a long story about my friend Gage, GT Gran Touring Gage, Gary. A best friend in High School (J.I. Case, class of 71). After long years in the US Army, we became friends again and we had several great visits out here in Northern Virginia. I am proud to call Deputy Gage my friend. I’m proud of his faithful service to Racine County. I will miss my old friend Gary. To Gloria, Gary’s parents, Tobin, Lisa, and Timmy, Gary’s children and grandchildren, I’m so very sorry for your loss. Please accept my deepest sympathy. I hope to see you all at the funeral service. Yours in Christ,
    Scott Russell

    “GREAT WITH EGGS”
With Gary’s wry sense of humor, when he was complemented for the amazing breakfasts he would make, he would laugh and say that would be the perfect epitaph for him. My deepest sympathies to his family and friends.

I first met Gary when I joined the security force at Waxdale 36 years ago. We became fast friends. We stayed in touch all these years, visiting when we could. I’ll miss that “Gage Grin”, his laugh, and his love of life.

Gary will be missed terribly. I always talk about how he scared me out of staying out past cerfew as a teenager visiting family and friends in Union Grove. That’s just one of many wonderful stories I have of him (although most come from my Dad…) He was just amazing and will be missed by so many!

My parents told me of your kindness, generosity, and servitude when we lost my brother. They needed that strength and your light came through. Thank you.
