Racine – Gay Ann (nee: Landmeier) Holzer, 65, passed away unexpectedly in Albuquerque, N.M. on Easter Sunday, April 4, 2010, while travelling back to Racine from Arizona of apparent cardiac arrest. Gay was born in Elmhurst, Illinois on July 7, 1944 to the late Leonard and Elsa (nee: Eickelmann) Landmeier. A 1962 graduate of Fenton High School (Bensenville, IL), she went on to attend Knox College and received her teaching degree from Elmhurst College. She later earned a Master’s Degree from Louis University. On December 16, 1967, Gay was united in marriage with the love of her life, Robert N. Holzer in Peace Church, in Bensenville, IL. Passionate about teaching the students of our Racine community, Gay spent much of her career with Racine Unified School District at Mitchell and Jerstad-Agerholm Middle Schools, until her retirement in 2004. With a profound Christian faith, she was an active member at Christ Church – United Methodist where she was involved with the United Methodist Women. Gay was also a member of the Racine Educator’s Association. Among her interests, she enjoyed reading, sewing, quilting, bead jewelry, and wintering in sunny Arizona – just to name a few. Above all, she loved and cherished being in the surroundings of her entire family and extensive circle of friends. Surviving are her loving husband, Robert; their sons, Scott (Christine Velez) Holzer of Denver, CO and Timothy (Tammy Winkelman) Holzer of Greenfield; adored grandson, Maxwell; brother, Wayne (Cathy) Landmeier; sister-in-law, Barbara (Jerry) Yuds; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends, too numerous to mention by name. In addition to her parents, Gay was preceded in death by Bob’s parents, Nelson and Marie Holzer. Funeral services will be held at Christ Church – United Methodist, 5109 Washington Ave., on Monday, April 12, 2010 at 11:00 am with Rev. Mark Swanson officiating. A reception will follow. Entombment will take place in West Lawn Memorial Park. Visitation will be in the funeral home on Sunday from 3-6 pm and in the church on Monday from 10-11 am. A heartfelt note of thanks to all of our relatives and friends for the overwhelming amount of love and support, that has been so warmly extended, during this extremely difficult time. May God bless all of you!
