George Merle Grabher

Sep 4, 1927 – Mar 12, 2006

GEORGE M. GRABHER Racine- George Merle Grabher, 78, passed away peacefully at the Hospice Alliance-Hospice House in Kenosha, surrounded by the love of his family, on Sunday, March 12, 2006 following a valiant battle with cancer. A lifetime resident, George was born in Racine on September 4, 1927 to the late George and Anna (nee: Iverson) Grabher. He was raised on the family farm and proudly joined the United States Army at age 18, was cited for marksmanship, and faithfully served our Country until his honorable discharge in November of 1946. On February 13, 1948 in Waukegan, IL, George was united in marriage to the love of his life, Jeanne Harriet Dibble, who preceded him in death on March 10, 2001. George was a strong education advocate, never stopped learning, and had curious interests in many fields. He was well read, studied issues thoroughly and was a prolific writer of his correct opinion to State and National politicians as well as to the Journal Times, many of which were printed in the opinion column. George was employed by various companies throughout his career, retiring from Twin Disc in 1989 after a 24-year tenure. Among many of his interests, he was a true sportsman. George was a honorary lifetime member of the Wisconsin Sportsman Association, where he volunteered as a range officer and served on board of directors as a recording secretary. As a recreational shooter, he was an expert hand loader for rifle, pistol and shotgun. You would frequently find him on the rifle range and participating in various trap leagues. George was a member of the NRA, American Legion Post 310, and obtained his pilot’s license in 1947. He also was an avid gardener and, recently, had enjoyed learning to play the piano. Above all, he was a devoted husband, father and grandfather who cherished being in the surroundings of his entire family. We’ll miss you Dad! Surviving are his children, Jacquelynn (George) Meyers of Racine; Don (Jaclyn) Grabher of Waukesha; Karl (Karen) Grabher of Racine; and Rebekha Grabher-Neu, M.D. of Roscoe, IL; daughter-in-law, Judy Grabher of Racine; grandchildren, George (Annie) and Brian (Jenny) Grabher; Thomas (Kandy), Ryan (Sheila), Patrick (Sara), and Steven (Sarah) Meyers; Cory (Kellie) Grabher; Mandy (Brett) Kandolf, Mason (Jessica) and Megan Grabher; and Aron and Karlynn Neu; many dear great-grandchildren; sister, Janet Kellogg; sister-in-law, Doris Grabher; brothers-in-law, Eugene Dexter, Glen Jensen, and Lloyd Kilman, all of Racine; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. In addition to his parents and wife, George was preceded in death by his beloved son, Darold Grabher; brother, Donald Grabher; and sisters, Eleanor Dexter and Alice Kilman. Funeral services will be celebrated in the funeral home, 4600 County Line Rd., on Saturday, March 18, 2006 at 11:00 am. Interment, with military honors, will follow in Graceland Cemetery. Visitation will be in the funeral home on Friday from 5-8 pm and on Saturday from 10-11 am. In memory of George, memorials to Hospice Alliance are encouraged. A special note of thanks to Douglas Puffer, MD, St. Mary’s Cancer Center, the staff at St. Mary’s who did their best, and to the wonderful staff at Hospice Alliance-Hospice House for their tender loving care and support that was so warmly extended at the end of our Dad’s life. Your generosity will always be remembered!

Testimonials

October 22, 2015

Brian and the rest of the staff, we just wanted to take a moment to thank you for handling every detail of our mom’s (Vera Miller’s) funeral so expeditiously and flawlessly. Being here in North Carolina, I was worried about getting mom back to WI which was her wish. All I had to do was make one phone call to your office and you seamlessly got her from Rex Healthcare in Raleigh, NC back to WI.

All of the arrangements were so impeccable; pictures, book for signing, flowers, thank you and acknowledgement cards, arrangements with Graceland Cemetery, and even playing our slideshow with music and photos, and getting it to loop properly.

You took so much worry off of me and my siblings by professionally stepping in and handling everything for us. I was going a little crazy thinking I had to do it all, but you helped so much that we just needed to share these thoughts and feelings with others. Thank you for everything,

– Vicky Coerper, Janice Miller, Kenny Miller and Monica Bailey
