GERALD “JERRY” G. MATSON

BURLINGTON – Mr. Jerry G. Matson, 61, passed away at Froedtert Memorial Lutheran Hospital on Sunday, December 29, 2013, after fighting a courageous 3 year battle with cancer.

He was born in Racine on January 9, 1952, the son of Eugene and Betty (nee: Trentadue) Matson.  He graduated from Washington Park High School.  Following graduation he proudly served his country with the U.S Navy.   On November 9, 1974 he married the love of his life, Marianne Drasen.

Jerry worked for A&E Tool for over 20 years before a disability forced an early retirement.

He was a devoted family man that was happiest when in the company of his children and grandchildren; especially when they could participate together in home projects and repairs.

In addition to his loving wife Marianne of 39 years of marriage, he is survived by his sons, Jason (Robyn) Matson of Honeycreek, Sean (Jenny) Matson of Burlington, Jeremy (Rebecca) Matson of Lake Como; his grandchildren, Devin, Summer, Caitlyn, Cheyenne, Payton, Kaylee, Jordan, Skyler, Alyah, Ian and Jayla; his father, Eugene Matson of Racine; his brother and sister, Robert (Lyn) Matson of Racine, Jackie Brisko of Fort Atkinson; brothers-in-law, George, Michael and Daniel Drasen; sisters-in-law, Georgia Wagner, Denise Maluchnick; dear friend and neighbor, Elena Spiegelhoff of Burlington; his "bff" and very special friend, Terry Delcore, close friends Jak, Art, Darrel and Amber; his loyal canine family, Sunshine, Chloe and Willow; as well as many nieces, nephews and very dear friends .  Jerry was preceded in death by his mother, Betty Matson; his mother in law Joan Drasen, his brother-in-law, Ernie Drasen, and Paul Brisko, and sister-in-law, Ellen Kruse.

Family and friends are invited to meet at the Draeger-Langendorf Funeral Home on Sunday, January 5, 2014 from 12:30 pm until 2:30 p.m. for a visitation and chance to meet with his family.  A service honoring and celebrating his life will follow at 2:30 p.m. with Rev. Mark R. Jones officiating.  A private interment will take place in the Southern Wisconsin Veterans Memorial Cemetery.  Memorials have been suggested to the American Diabetes Association and the American Cancer Society.

The Matson family would like to thank Dr. Parameswaran Hari as well as the nurses and staff at Froedtert Memorial Lutheran Hospital for the professional and personal attention Jerry received while under their care. The family would also like to thank Willard and Gina Romantini.

Marianne, I am thinking of you today. I am so sorry to hear of Jerrys’ passing. I will remember going to school with Jerry how quiet he was, at A&E he was a hard worker. Then meeting you at Nestle and all the long talks we had. Our lives seemed to just keep intertwining. Stay strong my friend, we will all be together some day.

My heartfelt condolences and prayers are being sent with this message. As a patient of Dr. Hari and having spent 2 times in the BMT Unit at Froedert , I have a sense of what Jerry may have experienced there. It was with much sadness that I learned of his passing. All of you will remain in my thoughts.

I was very saddened to hear that Jerry had passed away. Being a patient of Dr. Hari’s and also having spent time in the BMT Unit at Froedtert, I have some understanding of what Jerry went through there. My prayers are with the family at this time of great loss.

    My dear Marianne,
I cannot tell you how sorry I am for your loss. He put up a very good fight, but it was time for him to go home.
