Gloria E. Elliot

Apr 11, 1926 – Jul 16, 2013

     Gloria E. Elliot, 87, with family at her side, passed away peacefully in the Azura Memory Care Center- South, on Tuesday, July 16, 2013. She was born in Muskegon, MI on April 11, 1926, the daughter of the late Edward E. and Esther T. (nee: Carlson) Nelson. Mrs. Elliot lived most of her life in Grosse Pointe Park, MI until moving to Racine in 2007, to be with her son and his family.

     Mrs. Elliot attended Western Michigan University, where she majored in English. On February 14, 1947, she was united in marriage to Robert T. Elliot, who preceded her in death in January of 1997. Once her children were born Mrs. Elliot became a “stay at home mom.” She was a member of the Grosse Pointe Congregational Church, and while living here, she attended Fellowship Baptist Church. Mrs. Elliot enjoyed tennis and traveling.

    Surviving are her children, Rebecca Lynn (Bill) Delmege, of Grosse Pointe Park, MI, and Mark (Mary) Elliot, of Racine, grandchildren, Paul (April) Tibbert, Kelly (Adam) Houston, Andrew (Natalie) Delmege, Michael and Christopher Delmege, Brian and Kevin Elliot, great grandchildren, Ethan Houston, Abigail Delmege, Thomas Delmege, and Blake Tibbert, sister, Marilyn (Robert) Cormany, of Wilmington, NC. Her niece, Julie Cormany, and nephew, Chip (Mary Lou) Cormany also survive her. In addition to her parents and beloved husband, she was preceded in death by her son, Kim Nelson Elliot, daughter, Pamela Jean Tibbert, and brothers, Cliff and Donny Nelson.

     The family will celebrate her life in the Fellowship Baptist Church, 5607 Wright Ave., Racine, on Tuesday, July 23rd, at 6:00 p.m., with Rev. David Sincock officiating. The family will meet with relatives and friends, in the church, from 5:00 p.m. until the time of the service. The family has suggested memorials to Fellowship Baptist Church or Hospice Alliance.

The family would like to publicly thank the care givers of Azura Memory Care and Hospice Alliance for the compassion and kindness shown to Gloria and her family during her illness.
