Helen J. Kohlman

Apr 9, 1916 – Jul 27, 2008

Racine – Helen J. (nee: Kasvin) Kohlman, 92, passed away peacefully on Sunday, July 27, 2008, at Ridgewood Health Care Facility, as a result of complications due to congestive heart failure. A lifetime resident, Helen was born in Racine on April 9, 1916, to the late Andrew and Elizabeth (nee: Martocko) Kasvin.Helen attended Stephen Bull Elementary School, Franklin Junior High School, and Washington Park High School. Helen’s post-educational years were spent working at Webster Electric, where she worked for 13 years, helping out her parents and the war effort. On October 14, 1944, she was united in marriage to Theodore J. Kohlman at Holy Trinity Church, where she remained a life-long member until consolidation with St. Richard’s Parish. Helen was an unassuming, charitable Christian who put the needs of family and friends before those of her own. She was active in the Saint Cecilia Society and a den mother for Cub Scout Pack 177. Her hobbies and interests included family, gardening, baking, bowling and football—especially the Wisconsin Badgers, Green Bay Packers, and Notre Dame Fighting Irish. Her zest for life and her dry sense of humor will be sadly missed. Surviving are her children, Robert T. (Karen) Kohlman, Patricia M. (John) Mand, and William D. Kohlman; and sister, Ethel Kasvin; grand-daughters Katie and Hannah Kohlman, all of Racine; nephews Thomas G. Kasvin of Cincinnati, Ohio; Richard H. Kasvin of Chicago, IL; Christopher J. Kasvin of Lakewood, CO; Richard M. Kohlman of Racine; nieces Mary M. Kasvin of Arvada, CO; Paula Rene’ (Don) Jensen of Racine. Helen was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Theodore J. Kohlman; her brother Harry R. (Lorraine) Kasvin; brothers-in-law and spouses, Frederick W. (Maxine) Kohlman; Richard P. (Mary) Kohlman. A funeral mass will be celebrated on Wednesday, July 30, 2008, at 7 PM at St. Richard’s Catholic Church, 1509 Grand Ave, Racine, WI. Relatives and friends may meet with the family at the church from 5 PM till the time of Mass. Private interment will be held on Thursday morning at Holy Cross Cemetery. Memorials to St Richards Parish have been suggested. The family would like to thank The staff at Wheaton-Franciscan All-Saints Medical Center, Ridgewood Health Care Facility, especially nurse Linda, and Special Events Coordinator Alex, and Odyssey Hospice nurses Kim, Rita and Erin for their loving and compassionate care for Helen in her time of need.
