John "Jack" "Jake" C. Eifert

vet
Feb 29, 1928 – Dec 17, 2010

John (Jack) “Jake” Charles Eifert passed away at his home on Friday, December 17, 2010.  He was born on February 29, 1928 in Hartford, WI to the late John and Gertrude (nee: Ehlert) Eifert.  On September 17, 1960, he married the love of his life, Beverly (nee: Erdman) Eifert.

In his early years, Jack was very active in all sorts of sports.  He played football for Park High School, U. W. LaCrosse and the Racine Raiders.  In 2006, he was inducted in to the Racine Raiders’ Hall of Fame.   He served two tours of duty for the U. S. Navy (Occupational Forces in Japan and the Korean War).  Following his service for his country, he worked for 31 years at Western Publishing Company.  He was also a member of the Racine Dairy Statesmen.  Jack was a long-time member of First Presbyterian Church in Racine.

Being an avid Green Bay Packer and Chicago Cubs fan, you could always find Jack either tuned in to the radio or watching the games on TV.  He also enjoyed spending summer vacations at Pickerel Lake and summers at their trailer in Pioneer Park in Lake Delton.

Above all, he truly loved his family and will be greatly missed.  Jack is survived by his wife of 50 years, Beverly; his son, Dan (Tricia) Eifert; his daughters, Kris (David) Kraftzenk and Katie (Sean) MacKenzie; and his grandchildren, who were the world to him, Autumn, Austin, Ryan, Zachary, Haileyanne and Iva.  He is further survived by numerous nieces and nephews; three brothers-in-law and four sisters-in-law; and a cousin.  He was preceded in death by his parents; his sister, Verna; a niece, Betsy; his parents-in-law, Marvin and Alma Erdman; a brother-in-law, Richard Erdman; and a cousin, Glen Eifert.

The celebration of his life and funeral service will be held on Monday, December 27, 2010 at 7:00 p.m. in the Draeger-Langendorf Funeral Home with Rev. Steve Fringer officiating.  There will be a visitation and time to meet with the family in the funeral home before the service from 5-7 p.m.  Following Jack’s wishes, he will be cremated.  His interment will take place in the Southern Wisconsin Veterans Memorial Cemetery on Tuesday the 28th at 2:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials to First Presbyterian Church (716 College Avenue, Racine) or the American Cancer Society have been suggested.

The family wishes to thank the staff at Wheaton Franciscan Healthcare who cared for Jack during his hospitalization as well as the nurses of Wheaton Franciscan Hospice for their care and compassion.

I’d like to thank Brian Langendorf and staff for putting on a great memorial and celebration of life service for my mom. We received great feedback from our family and friends. My dad was especially appreciative on how it went and was very happy with the result. Thank you!!
