John P. Medzis

Jun 17, 1917 – Jul 7, 2006

John P. Medzis, 89, died at Woodstock Health and Rehabilitation Center of Kenosha on Friday, July 7, 2006. John was born in Racine on June 17, 1917. He was the son of the late Anton and Anna (nee: Mickinis), Medzis. He served his country in the U.S. Army in the 32nd Red Arrow Division during WWII from 1941-1945. He held the office of Secretary-Treasurer of the 32nd Division Club and was a member of the V.F.W. Post 1391. John received his B.S. in Business Administration from Marquette University. He retired in 1983 from Pioneer Savings (now TCF) as Vice-President after serving 25 years. Previously he worked for Hamilton Beach, Webster Electric and Oster Manufacturing. He married Mary Chovan on August 7, 1948. John and his family were former members of Holy Trinity Catholic Church and currently, St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church. He was an avid golfer; belonging to both the Ives Grove and Johnson Park Retired Men’s League. He was proud of the fact he had scored 3 holes-in-one during his golfing career. Surviving are his wife, Mary, their children, Paula (Allen) Noll of Menomonie, WI., Andrew (Jean) Medzis of Richfield, MN., Peter (Sylvia) Medzis of Murfreesboro, TN., Teresa (Thomas) Ross of Palm Beach Gardens, FL. He also has 10 grandchildren: Aimee (Noll) Dahlke, Jodi (Noll) Olson, Rachel Noll, Brad Medzis, Matthew Medzis, Kevin Medzis, Samantha Medzis, Kaylyn Ross, Taylor Ross, and Jordan Ross. He is also survived by his sisters-in-law Ann Reader of Racine and Dorothy Chovan of Bonita Springs, FL., and numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives. His parents and sister, Ann Akowski also preceded him in death. His Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church (6400 Spring Street) on Wednesday, July 12, 2006 at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. William J. Dietzler officiating. There will be visitation at the Church on Wednesday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of mass. Entombment with full military honors will follow in Holy Cross Cemetery, Highway 32. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to either St. Paul the Apostle Church or the Alzheimer’s Association. The family would like to publicly thank the wonderful staff of Woodstock for the care and concern given to John and his family during this time.
