
Racine- Joseph A. Gleissner, 92, passed away peacefully at All Saints-St. Mary’s Medical Center on Father’s Day, Sunday, June 18, 2006. Joe was born in Kenosha on May 18, 1914, the son of Louis and Eleanore (nee: Stadler) Gleissner and a resident of Racine since 1935. He was united in marriage to Bette Cullo at St. Patrick’s Church-Racine on August 31, 1935. Bette preceded him in death on February 25, 2001 after 65 wonderful, love-filled years of marriage. Immediately following her death, Joe’s son, Dick, moved back to Racine, after living in S. California for 39 years, to be Joe’s caretaker and companion. He was employed at Webster Electric Company for 46 years where he was administrator of the heating sales division. He retired April 30, 1981. Joe was a member of the Webster F.O.F. Club, AARP, and the Mount Pleasant Men’s Schafskopf Club. He was very active in his early years with fast pitch, slow pitch, baseball, bowling and golf. Joe was considered the best center fielder of fast pitch and baseball in Racine from 1936-1946. He was a charter member of Meadowbrook Country Club. Joe formerly served as secretary treasurer of the Western Bowling League for over 25 years. Surviving are his son, Richard “Dick” Gleissner of Racine; four grandchildren; sister, Mary Lou Harmon of Milwaukee; special nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. In addition to his parents and beloved wife, Joe was preceded in death by his brother-in-law, Arthur Cullo; sister-in-law, Margaret (Ray) Boehm; and in-laws, Michael and Elizabeth (nee: Panyi) Cullo. In accordance with Joe’s wishes, cremation will take place. Private services with inurnment in Graceland Cemetery will take place. Memorials to the Covenant Home Health and Hospice have been suggested.
