JOSEPH W. THOMPSON “Joey” Sturtevant- Joseph W. Thompson, 48, passed away unexpectedly in his sleep at his home on Tuesday, January 24, 2006. Joey was born on January 8, 1958. With his profound developmental disability, he lived in several facilities and private homes during his lifetime. Joey loved to laugh profusely and had a large, infectious smile. Because he couldn’t communicate with speech, Joey’s caregivers could easily read him by his loving mannerisms and expressions. He was always so joyfully excited when his bus would arrive at home to take him to Goodwill Industries. Joey also enjoyed going for rides in his adopted family’s van and clinching onto his favorite sock. May God grant eternal rest onto our beloved Joey! Surviving are his adopted family and friends, Robin, Tom and Melanie Holbus, Carol and Terry Gavin, all of Sturtevant; special caregivers, Laura Dobson of Union Grove; and Michelle Medlin and Cheech Hoffman at Goodwill Industries. Funeral services for Joey will be held in the funeral home on Saturday, January 28, 2006 at 10:00 am with Rev. Mark R. Jones officiating. Interment will follow in Holy Cross Cemetery, Hwy 32. Visitation will be in the funeral home on Saturday from 9-10 am. In memory of Joey, memorials to ARC of Racine County or to Goodwill Industries are encouraged.
Michelle Medlin, Cheech Hoffman says
Robin and family,
We wanted to send you a note to thank you for sending Joe to Goodwill and giving us the wonderful opportunity to get to know him.
It has been a true honor to be a part of his life. He always had a smile that would brighten the room. We loved laughing with him and making him feel better when he was upset.
Joe will forever remain in our hearts as one of the most genuinely sweet people we have ever had a chance to work with. We consider him not just a client but a true friend.
With deepest sympathy,
Michelle and Cheech
