Racine – Joyce E. Pfeiffer, 91, received the promise of eternal life on Wednesday, March 1, 2017, surrounded by the love of her family. She was born in Racine on January 5, 1926, daughter of the late Frank and Myrtle (nee: Minchow) Houdek.
Joyce was united in marriage to the love of her life, Norbert T. Pfeiffer, on June 1, 1946, at St. Mary Catholic Church in Racine. Norbert preceded her in death on June 21, 1997.
Joyce graduated from Horlick High School in 1944. She was a homemaker for her family and was a bookkeeper for Office Supply Company and Pickwick Office Products until her retirement. In the 1960’s, Joyce was a member of the Altar Sodality for St. Edward Catholic Church and was also a Girl Scout Leader for St. Edward School. Norbert and Joyce loved playing golf together and were members at Meadowbrook Country Club. Joyce was also a member of several golf leagues and played regularly at Johnson Park as well as Shoop Park golf courses. She was a sewing wizard and made many articles of clothing for her children and grandchildren. Joyce was also known for baking such wonderful desserts as her famous caramel pecan rolls, coffee cakes, and Christmas Cookies. Above all, she loved her family dearly and was a proud and happy grandma.
Joyce leaves to cherish her memory, her children, Patricia Auman of Fayetteville, NC, Tom (Lynda) Pfeiffer of Racine; grandchildren, Heather (Sabin) Passaantando, Scott Auman, all of Fayetteville, NC, Johnathon (Meghan Barton) Pfeiffer, Eric Pfeiffer, Jessica Pfeiffer, all of Racine; great-granddaughter, Madison Pfeiffer; sister-in-law, K. Maryellen Carlson; brother-in-law, A. Jerome Pfeiffer; other relatives and dear friends too numerous to mention.
In addition to her parents and husband, Joyce is preceded in death by her son-in-law, Jim Auman; brother, Eugene (Marilyn) Houdek; and brother-in-law, David Carlson.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, March 5, 2017, 3:00pm to 5:00pm, at Draeger-Langendorf Funeral Home and Crematory, 4600 County Line Road. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday March 6, 2017, 11:00am, at St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church, 6400 Spring Street, with Rev. Terry Huebner officiating. Burial will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery in Caledonia. In lieu of flowers, the family has suggested memorials to the Alzheimer’s Association or St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church.
The family would like to extend a heart-felt “Thank You” to Joyce’s caregivers, Liz Tower and Kathy Dugas, as well as the staff at Grace Hospice for the care given to Joyce during this difficult time.

John Lehman says
Our thoughts and prayers are with you. Joyce was always a delightful, supportive adult to me growing up.
John Lehman
Cathie and I are in Florida and can not pay our respects in person to the family. My mother Phyllis and sister Linda are in Racine but both are down with flu this weekend. It is terrible to think the Lehman’s who treasured Norb and Joyce for so many years will not be able to attend the funeral.
