Maggie Muriel Kelley

Jan 19, 1919 – Feb 11, 2008

Racine- Maggie Muriel Kelley, 89, passed away on Monday evening, February 11, 2008, at the Sheridan Medical Complex in Kenosha, WI. Maggie was one of eleven children born to the late James Madison Kelley and the late Ophelia Brewster Kelley on January 19, 1919 in Vemville, Mississippi. As a young adult she moved to Meridian, MS where she joined Newell Chapel AME church. Maggie moved to Racine, WI in 1965 and that same year was employed as a dietetic tech at Saint Mary’s Hospital and remained a dedicated and faithful employee until her retirement in 1983. Maggie joined Wayman AME Church where she sang in the choir as an alto. Maggie leaves to cherish her memory five children; Lula McLain, Bobby (Barbara) Waters, Ann Waters, Lawrence (Joella) Waters all of Racine WI, Edward (Brenda) Kelley of Powder Springs, GA and Keith (Shenelle) Waters of Racine, WI; two brothers; C.P. Kelley and Calvin Kelley both of Grand Rapids, MI; two sisters-in-law, Lillian Kelley also of Grand Rapids, MI. and Larvonia Kelley of Meridian, MS., and a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. Maggie was preceded in death by her parents; sisters, Viola Lottie Jane and Katie Ruth Kelley; brothers, Robert Clark and A.L. James; twin brother, John Earl Kelley; and son, James Waters. Homegoing services will be celebrated on Friday, February 15, 2008 at Wayman AME Church, 424 N. Memorial Dr., at 11:00 am with Rev. Charlene B. Mills officiating. Interment will follow in Graceland Cemetery. There will be a viewing at the church on Friday from 10-11 am. Memorials to Maggie’s beloved Wayman AME Church has been suggested.
