Margaret E. Smith

vet
Mar 8, 1923 – May 16, 2013

Racine – Margaret E. (nee: Schulz) Smith, age 90, passed away at Wheaton Franciscan – All Saints Medical Center on Thursday, May 16, 2013.

Margaret was born in Lake Geneva on March 8, 1923 to the late Herman and Hulda (nee: Beguhl)   Schulz. Following graduation from high school, Margaret proudly served our Country with the United States Navy in WWII.

Years ago, Margaret was employed at Goldblatt’s Department Store. Later, she went to work for Color Arts as the printing department inspector, from where she retired.  Margaret was a faithful member of Grace Lutheran Church and the Young at Heart Seniors. With a tireless work ethic, she enjoyed volunteering at the Lutheran High Thrift Shop. Extremely artistic, Margaret was talented in quilting, painting, crafts and cake decorating. Above all, she loved and cherished being in the surroundings of her entire family.

Surviving are her children, Linda Glass and Jerry Anderson; step-children, Fran Nielsen and Margaret (Earl) Hucker; many treasured grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren (all of whom she loved so very much…but too numerous to mention by name); sister, Gertrude Presbroten; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

In addition to her parents, Margaret was preceded in death by her first husband, D. Dale Anderson; second husband, Lee A. Smith; daughter, Karen Locke; grandsons, Eric Glass and Brian Locke; sisters, Dorothy (Harry) Gerberding, Betty (Earl)  Pretzman, Luella (Charles) Baumgart and Henrietta (Ralph) Baumgart; and brother, Harold (Eva) Schulz.

Funeral services will be held in the Draeger-Langendorf Funeral Home on Tuesday, May 21, 2013 at 1:00 pm with Rev. Randal A. Poppe officiating. Interment, with military honors, will follow in West Lawn Memorial Park. Visitation will be in the funeral home on Tuesday from 11 am – 1 pm. In lieu of flowers, memorial to the American Heart Association have been suggested.

A heartfelt note of thanks to the wonderful staff of Lakeshore Manor for the compassionate care and support given to Margaret during the past three years. May God bless all of you!

My sincerest condolences in the loss of your mother. My thoughts are with you and yours. I will always remember the times when we played Rummy Cube with my own mother. I think the moms had a great time together. Your mother was a wonderful lady and will be missed.
