Marian E. Mathe

Jul 22, 1921 – Jul 24, 2006

Marian E. Mathe, 85, died at her residence, surrounded by her family, on Monday, July 24, 2006, after a brave and valiant struggle with cancer. Mrs. Mathe was born in Green Bay, on July 22, 1921, the daughter of the late John and Ethel (nee: Vanderheyden) Marchant. On January 2, 1946, in St. John Nepomuk Church, here in Racine, she was united in marriage to Harold Mathe, who preceded her in death on Feb. 29, 1980. Mrs. Mathe had been employed by Western Publishing for over 30 years, retiring in 1988. She was a member of St. Lucy Catholic Church. She enjoyed working in her garden, but her greatest enjoyment came from her family. Surviving are her children, Steve (Nora) Mathe, Kathie (Dave) Abrahamson, all of Racine; 5 grandchildren, Rachelle (Tim) Burke, Kerry Abrahamson, Kelly Abrahamson, Jodi (Rick) Leonard, Janis Mathe, 3 great grandchildren, Connor, Collin and Caden Burke, 2 sisters Dolores (Frank N.) Miller of Racine, Marjorie Marchant and sister-in-law Irene Marchant both of Surprise, AZ. Her nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends further survive her, In addition to her parents and her beloved husband, Harold, Mrs. Mathe was preceded in death by her brother Robert “Bud’ Marchant Sr., and her nephew Robert Marchant Jr.. Her Funeral Mass will be held in St. Lucy Catholic Church, 3101 Drexel Ave. on Friday, July 28th, at 10:00 a.m., with Rev. Mark Jones officiating. Visitation will be in the funeral home on Thursday from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. and in the church on Friday from 9:00 a.m. until the time of the Mass. Entombment will follow in Holy Cross Cemetery Mausoleum Hwy 32. In lieu of flowers memorials can be made to either The Oncology Alliance Research Center or to the Heart Unit of St. Jude Hospital for Children.
