Marie M. Jones

Jan 19, 1908 – Sep 15, 2006

Racine- Marie M. (nee: Neubauer, Johnson) Jones, 98, passed away at Wheaton Franciscan- St. Mary’s Medical Center on Friday, September 15, 2006. Marie was born in Kenosha on January 19, 1908 to the late William and Caroline (nee: Hansen) Neubauer. She has lived in Racine since 1924. On January 30, 1926, Marie was united in marriage with Joseph A. Johnson, who preceded her in death in 1948. On May 29, 1971, she was united in marriage with Zenos Jones, who preceded her in death in 1988. She had been employed by Wisconsin Bell and, later, by Twin Disc from where she retired in 1971. Marie was a longtime and devoted member of Atonement Lutheran Church where she was active in church senior groups including Unit 6 and the Sunshine Bible Class. She was also a proud member of the Danish Ten-Cent Society. An avid bowler, Marie remained on several bowling leagues until she was in her late eighties. Among her interests, she enjoyed playing cards and cherished times spent with her entire family especially her grandchildren. Surviving are her four sons, Richard (Nancy) Johnson of Minoqua; Kenneth (Shirley) Johnson of Merrill; Charles (Susan) Johnson of Twin Lakes; and William Johnson of Sturtevant; 16 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; numerous great-great-grandchildren; stepdaughters, Shirley Saltys, Nancy Klee and Mitzie Jones; 4 step-grandchildren; 7 step-great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Exie Neubauer; and by many special nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. In addition to her parents and husbands, Marie was preceded in death by her grandson, Sam Johnson; infant sister; infant brother; brothers, Walter Neubauer and Gerald (Marion) Neubauer; stepson, David Jones; and by stepsons-in-law, Tony Saltys and Max Klee. Funeral services will be celebrated on Tuesday, September 19, 2006 at 5:00 pm in Atonement Lutheran Church, 2915 Wright Ave., with Rev. Denise Mbise officiating. A reception will follow. Private interment will be held in Graceland Cemetery on Wednesday. Visitation will be at the church on Tuesday from 3:00 – 5:00 pm. In memory of Marie, memorials to Atonement Lutheran Church or the American Heart Association have been suggested. A special note of thanks to the wonderful staff at Wheaton Franciscan-St. Mary’s, especially Dr. Iftekhar Bader and the nurses on 2C , for the compassionate care and support that was so warmly extended to our Mom and to our family.
