Martha E. Bohm

Aug 27, 1924 – Nov 27, 2011

     Martha E. Bohm, 87, passed away in Wheaton Franciscan Hospital-All Saints on Sunday, November 27, 2011. She was born in Arlington, WI on August 27, 1924, the daughter of the late Raymond and Martha (nee: Lione) Morter.

     On February 4, 1948, in Lodi, WI, she was united in marriage to Robert Bohm who preceded her in death on February 11, 1992. Mrs. Bohm graduated from the Columbia Hospital School of Nursing as an orthopedic RN. She had been employed by Madison General Hospital and, later, St. Luke’s Hospital, here in Racine.

She was a longtime member of Mt. Pleasant Lutheran Church, where she taught Sunday school. Mrs. Bohm was a founding member of the Racine Curling Club. She volunteered for many organizations such as, Trautwein PTA and Trautwein 4- H. St. Luke’s Blood Pressure Clinic, and Children’s Theatre. She also enjoyed sewing, knitting, making comforters, and writing her memoirs. She loved watching Badger and Packer games with her family and friends. She touched many lives by her caregiving, support and sending of cards.

     Surviving are her daughters, Chris (Fred) Oertel, of Racine, and Cathy (Ross) Meader, of Somers; grandchildren, Garrett (Katie Brown) Meader, Kiersten (fiancé, Eric Spinn) Meader, Jeremy (Natasha) Oertel, Nathan Oertel, Daniel Oertel, Kim (John) Kuras, and Tina (Scott) Corrigan; great grandchildren, Patrick, Matthew, Trevor, and Nicolas. Also surviving is her dear friend and companion, Arthur Uhlir, of Racine. Her nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends further survive her. In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by her grandson Fred Oertel and brother, Raymond Morter.

     Her Funeral Service will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. in Mt. Pleasant Lutheran Church, 1700 S. Green Bay Rd., on Friday, December 2, 2011, with Rev. Kara Baylor and Rev. Christine Thomas-Echelbarger officiating. Visitation will be in the funeral home on Thursday from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m. and in the church on Friday from 9:00 a.m. until the time of the service. Burial will follow in Graceland Cemetery. The family has suggested memorials to Mt. Pleasant Lutheran Church. Toys for Tots, or the Royal Family KIDS Camp-Racine.

    Martha was a gift from God to the Uhlir family. She was full of laughter and wisdom which she bestowed upon us all. We thank her for loving our dad, Art Uhlir and she will always have a special place in our hearts. May her spirit guide her family to find peace in her absence.
