Martha Marie (nee: Merriweather) York went home to her heavenly father on Saturday, September 23rd, 2017 at Lakeshore Manor in Racine. She was born August 16, 1945 in Alamo, TN to Robert and Annie Hayes Merriweather.

She was united in marriage to the late Hebert York on December 14, 1964 and to this union four children were born. Martha worked diligently serving the needs of others as Sunday school teacher, CNA, activities therapist, retail call center operator and retired as a culinary specialist in childcare.

Martha found great pleasure in studying the bible, cooking, decorating and listening to music. Above all, she had pleasure in caring for her grandchildren. She was kind to all displaying a warm heart and would not hesitate praying for anyone and sharing God’s love with others.

She leaves to cherish her memories Ursula (James) Williams, A. Cecil (Thomas) York, Gwendolyn (Bart) Trussell and Michael (Dawn) York. Her grandchildren, Jaleesa and Isaiah Trussell, Sylvester Williams III, Alivia and Gabriel York and great grandchildren Jordynn and Jayda Jenkins, sister Annie (Paul) Price and a host of nieces, nephews and friends.  Martha was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, infant son Jessie and brother Theodore Brackett.

The family would like to express their sincere gratitude to the staff, nurses and CNAs of Lakeshore Manor, Dr. Bresnahan and the nephrology team of Froedtert and the Memorial College of Wisconsin and Dr. Chance Lawson of Wheaton Franciscan-Ascension for their compassionate care of our mother.

A Celebration of her life will be held on Friday, September 29, 2017, 6:00pm in the Chapel of Draeger-Langendorf Funeral Home.  Visitation will be at the funeral home from 4:00pm until the time of service. Pastor Manuel Lozano will be officiating. Interment will take place at West Lawn Memorial Park on Monday, October 2nd at 12:00pm.
