Mary D. Peavy

Apr 25, 1944 – Jun 28, 2013

Mary Dean Peavy, 69, passed away at WFH All Saints Hospital on Friday, June 28, 2013. She was born in Tupelo, Mississippi on April 25, 1944, the daughter of Roy and Hattie Lee Lockridge. She was a Racine resident for most of her life.

Mary will be remembered for her outgoing personality and love of life. She was a gifted vocalist, and truly enjoyed praising God through song. She sang many years with the Heavenly Voices Gospel Choir and most recently with the Starlight Gospel Singers. She also enjoyed gardening, and traveling with her friends. She was a faithful member of Second Missionary Baptist Church.

Mary will be dearly missed by her children, Lee (Jonessa) McGee of Kenosha, James (Regina) McGee, and Patricia McGee both of Racine; seven grandchildren, DaMarcus, Jairon, Dominique, Jared, Jarvis, Jessica, and Leah; and her sister, Paris Cunningham of Tupelo, Mississippi. She is further survived by her step-son, Shawn Peavy; foster-son, Terrance Borden; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Johnny and Irene Knox of New Orleans; and many dear friends, including Shirley Oliver, Lourie Bonner, Rosemary Davis, Annie Ruth Coleman, Lee and Kathy Mikell, and Michael and Frances Randolph.  She was preceded in death by her parents, and by her husband, Ray Peavy.

Homegoing services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, July 6, 2013 at the Second Missionary Baptist Church (1250 Lathrop Ave) with Rev. J. Mark Freeman officiating. Pubic visitation will begin at 10:00 a.m. Mary will be laid to rest in Graceland Cemetery at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, July 8, 2013.

The family of Mary Peavy acknowledges with grateful appreciation the kindness and care provided by the staff at Becker-Shoop Care Center, WFH All Saints Hospital, Dr. Ryan Engel and his staff, and also Wheaton Hospice.

Testimonials

October 22, 2015

My husband, Tom, died on Jan. 24, 2015. From that life-changing day and still now, Gary and his sons have been at my side taking care of me, advising me, and guiding me with their sensitive, caring, and efficient expertise. I have heard from friends and family how perfect and wonderful the funeral service was (it was a blur for me), and I have the beautiful obit, memorial booklets, CD rom of slide show, celebration candle, portrait, and even personalized thank you cards to provide memories and comfort during difficult days ahead. My heart is full of thanks and appreciation to Gary Langendorf and his entire family.
