Mount Pleasant – Mary Louise Schenkenberg, age 106, passed away peacefully, with family by her side, under the care of Heartland Hospice on Saturday, July 12, 2025.
Mary Louise was born in Osakis, MN on February 2, 1919 to the late Nicholas J. and Mary (nee: Marthaler) Didier. She moved to the Racine area in 1956. On January 29, 1972 at St. George Catholic Church in Kenosha, she was united in marriage with the love of her life, Cyrus “Cy” Schenkenberg. They loved all of their adventures together especially, traveling worldwide. Sadly, Cy passed away on November 21, 1993.
Mary Louise worked as a financial counselor for Kenosha Memorial Hospital for over 21 years, retiring in 1981. Years later, she enjoyed serving as a food demonstrator at Sam’s Club, a position she enjoyed well into her 90’s.
Mary Louise was a longtime member of Holy Name Catholic Church, where she had been active with Christian Mothers, Altar Society, Catholic Women’s Club and as a Eucharistic Minister. Cy and Mary Louise enjoyed being involved with the Masonic Lodge where she was a member of the Racine Commandery #7 Ladies Auxiliary, Eastern Star, White Shrine and Order of the Amaranth. Mary Louise could often be found socializing at Friends of Seniors and at Mt. Pleasant Senior Sheepshead Club. Mary Louise was forever baking delicious loaves of bread by the dozens – always giving them away to family & friends. She absolutely loved reading so it was difficult for her in the past few years as her eyesight became compromised. May the good work she did speak for how Mary Louise lived her life. May she now rest in peace.
Surviving are her son, Robert (Leitha) Schenkenberg; grandchildren, Rebecca (Charlie) Hoslet, Tabathia Volk, Debbie Schenkenberg, Christopher (Dianne) Schenkenberg, Jeffrey (Cathy) Volk, Erich (Rachel) Schenkenberg, Adam (Tracy) Schenkenberg and Heidi Schenkenberg; great-grandchildren, Erika (Brent) Blakeman, Jake McCulloch, Matthew (Kenzie) Volk, Jack (Kat) Volk, Connor, Julia and Andrew Schenkenberg; Kailey, Quinn, and Caine Schenkenberg; Emmett Schenkenberg, great-great-grandchildren, Aaron Volk, Shiloh Blakeman and John Volk; sister-in-law, Loreli Didier; many special nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends – too numerous to mention all by name.
In addition to her parents and husband, Mary Louise was greeted in Heaven by her son, Paul (Joyce) Schenkenberg; daughter, Nancy (John) Volk; grandsons, Scott Schenkenberg and Rob Volk; brothers, Nick (Joan) Didier, Edward Didier, Al (Loretta) Didier and Leo Didier; sisters, Ann (Peter) Michels and Frances (Nick) Demuth; Cy’s parents, Albert and Helen (nee: Heinz) Schenkenberg; sister-in-law, Marie Schenkenberg; and brothers-in-law, Eugene (Pat) Schenkenberg and Francis (Ann) Schenkenberg.
