Merriweather Louis Shaw

Jul 8, 1939 – Dec 17, 2010

Racine – Merriweather Louis “Broom” Shaw, Sr., 71, passed away at WFH All Saints Hospital on Friday, December 17, 2010. He was born in Greensboro, Alabama on July 8, 1939, son of the late Charlie Shaw and Willie Merriweather.

Louis was a Racine area resident for most of his life, and retired from Johnson Outboard after 30 years of service. He enjoyed dancing and listening to old school blues, and was an avid bingo player all over town. Louis particularly enjoyed visiting with his friends and spending the day in the auto shop they shared. Above all he loved to be with his family. Louis was a member of greater Mt. eagle missionary Baptist Church.

Louis will be dearly missed by his wife, Barbara King Shaw; his children, Richard Winston of San Bernardino, California, Annie “Tina” Wilson of Sawyerville, Alabama, Jacqueline Shaw-Seward, Merriweather Shaw, Jr., Willona McBride, Jacqueline (Greg) Landerman, Jill King all of Racine, Donna (Richard) Melton of Tennessee, John (Patty) Zieglemeier of Florida, Debra Glass, and Todd Zieglemeier both of Racine; 26 grandchildren; brothers and sisters, Frank (Freddie) Shaw of Racine, Audry Jones of Birmingham, Alabama, Abner (Carolyn) Shaw of Racine, Gilbert Shaw of Pontiac, Michigan, Gwen (Rufus) Scott of Racine, and Jeanette Shaw of Mobile, Alabama; as well as many other close relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Chuckie Shaw; daughter, Cindy Phillips; grandchildren, Tanisha Shaw and Tony Smith; brothers, Riley Shaw, Charlie Shaw, William Shaw, Walter Shaw; and sister, Fannie Phillips.

Homegoing services will be held in the funeral home on Thursday, December 23, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Keith T. Evans officiating. Visitation will begin at 10:00 a.m. Private committal services will be held on a later date.
