MOUNT PLEASANT (FORMERLY OF UNION GROVE) – Mrs. Metha J. Peterson, 98, passed away at WFH- All Saints on Saturday, January 18, 2014.

She was born in Chicago on September 2, 1915 to the late Alfred and Anna (nee: Pedersen) Rosendahl.  After the death of her mother, while Metha was an infant, she was adopted by her mother’s sister and husband, Nicolina and Otto Nielsen.  They raised her and to Metha, they were mother and father.  On August 28, 1937 she married Harry C. Peterson.  They lived their life on the farm together until his death on June 20, 2003.  Soon after his passing, she moved to Racine.

Metha was a longtime member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Union Grove.  In addition to raising her family on the farm, she enjoyed her flower and vegetable gardens and feeding the many birds that visited.  Metha also looked forward to traveling and fishing with her husband Harry.

She is survived by her daughters, Nancy (Jim) Rubeck-Nelson of Sayner, WI., Sandra (Dennis) Winchester of The Villages, FL. and Joanne (Tom) Decker of Franksville.  Metha is further survived by nine grandchildren; 16 great grandchildren; as well as nieces and nephews. She was also preceded in death by her half-brother, Al Rosendahl and her son-in-law, Don Rubeck.

Family and friends are invited to meet in the Draeger-Langendorf Funeral Home on Thursday, January 23, 2014 for a visitation from 10 until noon.  A service celebrating and remembering her life will follow at noon.  A private interment will take place at West Lawn Memorial Park.  In lieu of flowers, memorials have been suggested to St. Paul Lutheran Church in Union Grove or to one’s favorite charity.

Metha’s family thanks Ridgewood Care Center and Wheaton Franciscan Hospice for the loving and professional care extended to her while she was in their care.
