Nancy Lee Henry

Racine – Nancy L. Henry, 74, was called to the Lord on Wednesday, June 27, 2007. She was born in Racine on September 5, 1932, daughter of the late John and Louise (nee: Everard) Sandbach. She had been a lifetime resident of Racine. She is survived by her children, Rene’ (Dan) O’Connor, and Ronald (Susan) Henry; grandchildren, Joseph and John O’Connor, Lisa, Elizabeth, and Alison Henry all of Racine; sister, Sharon Hill of Denver, Colorado; brother, Paul (Barbara) Sandbach of Racine; nieces and nephews, Debbie (Victor) Oesau, Clive (Kitty) Janders, Jeanine (Kevin) McBride, Susan (Gary) Mattie, Paula Ellis, Paul Sandbach, Jr., Therese (Mary) Sandbach, Marty Sandbach, Robert (Candy) Sandbach, John Reidenbach, Jeff Reidenbach, David (Carla) Reidenbach, Tim (Mary) Reidenbach, and Debbie (Rob) Oswalt; great nieces and great nephews, Jenny (Lamont) Langford, Jacob Oesau, Paul Janders, Casey McBride, Stephanie Mattie, Eric Mattie, Kevin Ellis, Jr., Asleigh Sandbach, Jason Sandbach, Gregory Sandbach, Kyron Sandbach, Jason Reidenbach, Kevin Reidenbach, Phillip Reidenbach, Katie Reidenbach, Tommi Reidenbach, Amy Reidenbach, Kelsey Reidenbach, Cassandra Reidenbach, Travis Reidenbach, Jacob Oswalt, and Emily Ann Oswalt. She is further survived by her uncles, Robert Everard, and George (Cheri) Everard; cousins, Roy (Pat) Bennet, Carol (Ron) McCarver, Mary (Jeff) Hazen, and David (Dorothy) Bernhardt. She was also preceded by her brother and sister-in-law, Charles and June Sandbach; sister and brother-in-law Ann and Al Reidenbach; and nephew, Kevin Ellis. Nancy loved adventure and did extensive traveling throughout the United States and abroad, including trips to Africa, Australia, New Zealand, Switzerland, London, Paris, and Rome. As an adult, Nancy returned to school to earn her bachelor’s degree from St. Martin’s College. Nancy was employed as the Associate Director/Director of Program Operations at Racine/Kenosha Community Action Agency, Inc. (R/K CAA) for 38 years. She was a lifelong member of St. Edward’s Catholic Church. It was her deep faith and commitment to Christ led her to a life of helping others. She was a Golden Heritage Member of the National Organization for the Advancement of Colored People, and served as for 28 years as Wisconsin State NAACP Secretary, 8 years as State Treasurer, was a member of the National NAACP Resolutions and Health Committee, and conducted workshops on Consumerism for National NAACP. She was Regional Secretary 5 times, and a life member of the Racine Branch NAACP since 1968. She was a member of the Business and Professional Women of Racine for 29 years, serving as President from 1985-87, State President from 1989-90, National Board from 1989-1990, and 8 years as Wisconsin President of the International BPW. Locally, she served and assisted with the Christmas Basket, Clothing Jamboree, Racine Food Pantry, Housing Assistance Program and many other programs at the R/K CAA. Her favorite program was the R/K CAA Head Start Program where she served as the Racine Head Start Policy Council Administration Advisor. She also served with the National Consumer Information Center; United Way Long Range Committee; Federal Emergency Management Agency; George Bray Center; Gateway Technical Advisory Board; Toys for Tots; UW-Parkside Focus on Women; Homeward Bound; and numerous other Boards. Funeral services will be held at St. Edward’s Catholic Church, 1401 Grove Avenue, on Monday, July 2, 2007 at 10:30 a.m. with Rev. Richard J. Molter officiating. Burial will follow at West Lawn Memorial Park. All are invited to visit with the family in the church from 9:00 – 10:15 a.m. Memorials to St. Edward’s Church, or St. Monica’s Home have been suggested.
