Norman Clifford Heinitz, 80, passed away Sunday June 10, 2018 and got the best seat at church that day right next to his Savior in heaven and his wife MaryAnn.
Norman was born in Sebewaing, MI on August 22, 1937 to Leonard Heinitz and Esther (nee: Reklau) Heinitz. He was raised on a farm and as a young man headed west never getting farther than Kenosha, WI where, while hospitalized, he met a very persistent nurses aid, our mother MaryAnn. Norman and the former MaryAnn Baietto were married August 13, 1960 at Bethany Lutheran Church in Kenosha, WI. Together they raised 3 children Betsy and Karl Heinitz of Racine, Wisconsin and Rebecca Smith of Minneapolis, MN who were blessed to have the sweetest “Daddy” in the world.
Norman completed an associates degree in accounting as a young man and used that knowledge working as an office manager for Racine Volkswagen Mazda, Nudi Suzuki and Fohrman Dodge. Every Saturday was the “county run” for Daddy as he went to service the many other local and county businesses for whom he did book keeping and tax work. Every tax season you could hear that pound on the back door and a “come on in” as Daddy invited tax client after tax client into his basement office. As a member of Epiphany Lutheran Church he spent many years as treasurer, and he managed the Racine Bridge Clubs books for many years.
He enjoyed playing bridge. Norm and MaryAnn where regulars at the Racine Bridge Club and enjoyed attending tournaments both locally and out of town. Even when he was slowing down due to age and illness he still went to bridge and loved playing cards. He was a Life Master and recently received the GMBA’s Winifred Lawrie Service Award for 2018. He was a kind man devoted to his family with many friends who loved and respected him.
Norman is survived by his children, his sister Dorothy Simpson, Brothers-in-Law John and Gene Baietto and Sister-in-Law Laurel Baietto, many nieces and nephews and his beautiful grand-daughter Isabella MaryAnn Smith.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife MaryAnn, a daughter Julie Ann Heinitz, Sisters-in-Law Judith Baietto and Karen Baietto, his sister Luella Gillingham, and brothers Charles Heinitz, Howard Heinitz, and Delbert Heinitz.
Special thanks to Dr. Mullane and his staff, the nurses at Ascension All Saints and Grace Hospice for taking such good care of Daddy. Special thanks also to Carol Dwiggins who was always available when we needed her, his wonderful nephews who made many trips from Michigan to visit with him and his niece Lisa who provided tasty meals and ran many errands for our parents.
