
Racine- Ora Lee “Mudfat” Portis, 67, passed away peacefully on Thursday, October 12, 2006 at the Beverly Health – Kenosha Care Center. Ora was born in Stonewall, MS on September 9, 1939 to the late Oliver and Alice Wainwright. At a tender age, she was united in marriage to the now late Curtis Portis. They were longtime Racine residents. Surviving are her daughter, Dorothy Marie Portis; two grandchildren, Camille Latrice Brim and Dorale Davon Portis; four great-grandchildren, Calissa Marie Wilson, Dorale Deshawn Portis, Rozannah Marie Portis, Jahliyah Deshea Wilson, all of Racine; four sisters, Ruth Healy of Racine; Carrie L. (Ester) Davis, Carol Hand, Alma Wainwright, all of Mississippi; two brothers, Cecil (Elnora) Wainwright of Racine; and Eugene (Bernice) Ray of MS; sisters-in-law and brother-in-law, Lois Sherwood, Minnie (Edward) Mosley, Mamie Durr and Vernon Portis; special friend, Mack Nesbitt of Racine; and a host of nephews, nieces, cousins, other relatives and friends. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her three brothers, Oliver Jr., Roosevelt and Edsel Wainwright; and by in-law’s, Carrie Durr and Leo Portis. Funeral services will be held in Stonewall, Mississippi on Wednesday, October 18, 2006 at 11 am in Little Zion Church. Visitation will be in Turner Funeral Home (1-601-735-1790) of Quitman, MS on Tuesday from 6-7 pm. Burial will take place in Little Zion Cemetery. A special note of thanks to the staff at Kenosha Care Center for the compassionate care and support that was so warmly extended to my mother.
