
Racine – Orland E. Guard, 82, passed away at Wheaton Franciscan Healthcare – Allsaints on Thursday, December 7, 2006. He was born on September 26, 1924 in Nadeau Township, Michigan, son of the late Lars and Edna (nee: Lucke) Guard. Orland graduated from high school in Michigan, and then served in the Navy from September 1942 – January 1947. He was honorably discharged as a Radioman 1st class. On April 21, 1951 in Holy Name Catholic Church, he was united in holy matrimony to Marie Caroline Funk.
Orland retired in 1987 from In-Sink-Erator, where he had worked as a tool and die maker. He enjoyed woodcarving, and his carved birds, inlayed jewelry boxes, and trays will be treasured forever. He was an amateur radio operator and liked visiting with his friends from the Naval Cryptological Society. He was a member of St. Sebastian’s Catholic Church.
He is survived by his dear wife, Marie; and their children, Jane (Richard) Hoover of St. John, Indiana, Mary (David Nimmer) Fluegge of Racine, Raymond (Shirley) Guard of Daggett, Michigan, Ann (Stephen) Kozenski of Franksville, and Susan (Herman Morgan) Gement of Sturtevant; grandchildren, Jennifer (John) Puntillo, Raymond (Dalia) Hoover, Kathryn Hoover, Loren Fluegge, Philip Fluegge, Tyler Fluegge, Amy Kozenski, Tara Gement, and Gracie Gement; great-grandchildren, Abby Hoover, Evelyn Puntillo, and Max Puntillo; brother, Robert Guard; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Joe (June) Funk, Bill Funk, Bob (Joanne) Funk, Ruth Field, Rose (Pete) Trecroci, Rita Barth, Leone Funk, and Larry (Donna) Funk; as well as many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Orland was preceded in death by his son, Michael Guard, and his brother Lawrence Guard.
The funeral mass for Orland will be held at 6 p.m. on Sunday, December 10, 2006 at St. Sebastian’s Catholic Church, 3126 95th Street, Sturtevant. Visitation will begin in the church at 4 p.m. Burial will take place at 10:00 a.m. on Monday at Calvary cemetery.
