Phillip John Sorensen

Mt. Pleasant – Phillip John Sorensen, 89, passed away peacefully in the surroundings of his home and family on Sunday, September 4, 2016. Phillip was born in Racine on January 15, 1927, son of the late George and Frances (nee: Olson) Sorensen. He was a proud Marine, having served with the 6th Marine Division during WWII.

When Phillip was a young man he was married to Geraldine Wallet and then moved to California. While there they had one son, Jeffery. Phillip worked at Safeway Foods driving semi-trucks for 35 years. In 1984, Phillip was married to Victoria (nee: Mullis) Bahr. In 2005 they moved to Omaha, Arkansas, and then resettled here in Racine in 2014.

Phillip is survived by his wife, Victoria Sorensen; son Jeffery Sorensen of San Diego; step-children Cheryl (Bahr) Ricchio, Jeff Bahr, and Dan Bahr; nieces Carolyn Farley, Marcia Lewis, Dawn (Don) Sauser; nephew Greg (Kathy) Sorensen; sisters-in-law Pat (Don) Freymuth, and Lynn Mullis, grandchildren, great-grandchildren; as well as many other relatives and friends. He was also preceded in death by his sister Elaine Boyer; brothers Joe Sorensen and Paul Sorensen; father-in-law and mother-in-law Martin and Geneva Mullis; sisters-in-law Peggy Mullis, Martina Kieliszewski; and brother-in-law Marty Mullis. 

Final committal services and military honors will be held in the chapel at the Southern Wisconsin Veterans Memorial Cemetery at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, September 9, 2016.

A “Celebration of Life” gathering will be held on Sunday, September 11, 3:00-6:00 p.m. at Infusion’s Banquet Hall, 3201 Rapids Drive, Racine, WI.
