Richard John Jackowski

Aug 25, 1931 – Jan 17, 2007

Racine- Mr. Richard John Jackowski, 75, passed away unexpectedly at his home on Wednesday, January 17, 2007 following a courageous battle with multiple illnesses over the past few years. A lifetime resident, Dick was born in Racine on August 25, 1931 to the late John and Elizabeth (nee: Kunz) Jackowski. He graduated from Washington Park High School – Class of 1950. Following training in vocational school, Dick became an accomplished carpenter. Years later, he was employed as a safety consultant with OSHA for the State of Wisconsin, from where he retired in 1994. On November 30, 1968 at St. John Nepomuk Catholic Church, he was united in marriage with Kathleen Herchian. On April 19, 1969, Dick and Kathy’s dream came true with the birth of their beloved son, Richard Allen Jackowski. Affectionately called “Mrs. J.” by thousands of the students she had in school, Kathy preceded Dick in death on May 31, 1995 following a valiant battle with cancer. Dick proudly served our Country with the Wisconsin National Guard. He was a longtime member of St. John Nepomuk Catholic Church and, of recent, St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church. Dick was an active member of the Knights of Columbus – Racine Council 697 and 4th Degree Assembly 1207. As a devoted member of Racine Council 697, he served on the Building & Grounds Committee, Bingo volunteer, secretary of the Kay-Cee Ltd., officer of Council 697; member of the Honor Guard and officer of Assembly 1207; dartball league and was influential in finishing the entire interior of the clubhouse on Hwy 20. In his spare time, he enjoyed woodworking, gardening, camping, hunting, and fishing. Above all, he was happiest when in the surroundings of all his family and friends. Surviving are his beloved son, Rick; devoted companion and friend, Joyce Junge; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, George (Dorothy) Herchian, Dorothy Frederiksen, Lou Widmar, and Augie Herchian; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. In addition to his parents and wife, Dick was preceded in death by his sister, Carole (James) Brown; brother, Edward Jackowski; in-laws, Nicholas and Agnes Herchian; and by brother-in-law, Gil Frederiksen. Funeral services will be held in the funeral home, 4600 County Line Rd., on Sunday, January 21, 2007 at 1:00 pm. A reception will immediately follow at the Knights of Columbus Hall, 13249 Hwy 20. Visitation will be in the funeral home on Sunday from 11 am – 1 pm. Private interment will be held in West Lawn Memorial Park. In memory of Dick, memorials to the Knights of Columbus #697 Memorial Fund have been suggested.

Testimonials

Comfort, blessed and confident

I can’t say enough good things about Michael and his staff. They go above and beyond what is required of a funeral home. He has always met my desires and goes beyond what I ask. He always makes it a little more special. He has blessed me and my family many times and comforted us when we are aching because of our loss. I am always confident that he will do his very best, and he always has.
Thank you Michael and staff. May you all have a Blessed Christmas season and New Year
