Racine- Richard L. Peterson, 73, passed away peacefully in the arms of his loving wife, Yvonne, at Wheaton Franciscan- All Saints Medical Center on Tuesday, October 2, 2007. A lifetime resident, Richard was born on September 27, 1934 in Racine, son of the late LeRoy and Helen (nee: Hanson) Peterson. He was united in marriage to the love of his life, Yvonne Duwell, at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church – Racine, on April 28, 1956. They celebrated and enjoyed their 51st Anniversary together in April of 2007. Richard faithfully served our Country as a Sgt. in the United States Marine Corps. His grandson, Eric Jensen, is currently and proudly following in his grandpa’s footsteps, serving as a Sgt. with the Marines. Richard was employed by the Dumore Corp., retiring after 30 years of service. He also worked at Jensen Metal Products, retiring after 10 years of employment. Richard was an avid Packer fan; loved ballroom dancing with his wife; traveling, especially their beautiful trips to the islands of Hawaii; golfing; trips to various casinos; and, of course, the treasured tea-parties shared with granddaughter, Alex. Richard was a loving husband, father “Daddy”, grandpa and great-grandpa, who will be deeply missed! He is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 51 years, Yvonne; their children, Kim Peterson and Todd Fuller of South Dakota; Richard and Lori (nee: Schacht) Peterson of Ohio; Julie Peterson of Wisconsin; Randall Peterson and Paula Chang of Arizona; and Robert Peterson of Wisconsin; son-in-law, Robert Jensen; grandchildren, Eric (Kim) Jensen, Sadie (Robert) Gibson, Nena Neuendorf, Emily (Mitchell) Neuendorf; Alex Peterson; Julieon and Sage Peterson; great-grandchildren, Britney Tasker, Kai Jensen and was anxiously awaiting the birth of two other little ones – expected in 2008; sister, Esther and Hugh Hyatt; very special friend, Jean (the late Lee) Dunk and family; all the friends from ballroom dancing; nieces, nephews, other dear relatives and friends too numerous to mention by name. In addition to his parents, Richard was preceded in death by his sisters, Ella (George) Lamontange, Carol Kroll and Helen (Ray) Coey; mother-in-law, Rose (Bob) Angel; father-in-law, August (Beula) Duwell; sister-in-law, Maxine (Dom) Cuccia; and brothers-in-law, Ronald Duwell and Allen (Bertha) Duwell. Funeral services will be held in the funeral home, 4600 County Line Rd., on Sunday, October 7, 2007 at 3:00 pm. Visitation will be in the funeral home on Sunday from 1-3 pm. In accordance with Richard’s wishes, cremation will follow the services. Interment, with military honors, will take place at the S. WI Veterans Cemetery in Union Grove on Monday at 11:00 am. In lieu of flowers, memorials to the Women’s Resource Center of Racine has been suggested. A special note of thanks to Dr. Odders, Dr. Johnson, Dr. Chen, Dr. Willard; the entire staff of WFH-All Saints Emergency Dept., Cancer Center, ICU and Chaplains of Pastoral Care; and to Racine Fire and Rescue for the compassionate care and support that was so warmly extended to our beloved Richard.

Testimonials

October 22, 2015

We want to thank Mike for the kindness and special attention he gave us for our mother. Marcella Conley. He came in the middle of the night himself to pick her up and take her to the funeral home. For the things that had to be taken care of, he told us not to worry; that it would be taken care of by him. Thank you also Mike for singing at her funeral, especially her favorite song, Amazing Grace. Thank you and all of your staff at Draeger-Langendorf.
