Robert Charles Keenan

Racine- Robert Charles Keenan, 84, passed away at the Norman Regional Hospital in Norman, OK on Saturday, November 22, 2008. A lifetime resident, Bob was born in Racine on September 12, 1924 to the late Leroy D. and Adelia (nee: Gall) Keenan. He proudly served our Country with the United States Army during WWII in England, France and Germany from 1943-1946, On April 12, 1947 in St. Stanislaus Catholic Church, he was united in marriage with the love of his life, Catherine T. Lukawski, who preceded him in death on March 20, 2003. After returning from the Army, Bob was employed by Massey-Harris. Shortly after, he began a 29-year career with the City of Racine. He retired in 1989 as the head groundskeeper of Washington Park Golf Course. For many years, Bob was a tirelessly devoted parishioner of St. Stanislaus Catholic Church where he served as an usher and building supervisor. When St. Stan’s closed in 1997, he became a member of St. Richard of Chichester Catholic Church. Bob was also a member of the City of Racine 20 Year Club and life-member of the VFW Post 1391. His favorite pastimes were tending to his family and serving his church. Surviving are his children, David (Katharine) Keenan, Sr. of Racine; Kathleen (Richard) Lane of Norman, OK; Dennis (Mary) Keenan of Racine; and Barbara (Melvin) Jarrell of Bloomfield, MO; grandchildren, David Keenan, Jr., Rebecca (Mike) Friedel, Brenda Keenan, Nicole (James) Robb, Tracy (Jason) Simpson, Richard (Chrystal) Lane, Jr., Carrie (Chris) Pierce, Robert Reyes, Michael Keenan, Daniel Keenan, Phillip Jarrell, Teresa (Louis) Klevin and Pamela Jarrell; 17 adored great-grandchildren; brother, Leroy (Farrell) Keenan; sister, Ruth King; sister-in-law, Rose Marie (George) Kroes; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends too numerous to mention by name. In addition to his parents and beloved wife, Bob was preceded in death by his sister, Jean (Herbert) Calverly; sister-in-law, Delores (Leo) Janikowski; and brother-in-law, Robert King. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, November 28, 2008 at 11 am in St. Richard Catholic Church, 1509 Grand Ave., with Rev. Ronald J. Gramza officiating. Interment, with military honors, will follow in S. WI Veterans Memorial Cemetery. Visitation will be in the funeral home on Wednesday, November 26th, from 5-8 pm and in the church on Friday from 10-11 am. In memory of Bob, memorials to St. Richard Parish or to one’s favorite charity have been suggested.
