MOUNT PLEASANT – Roger O. Hougard, 68, passed away at Ascension All Saints on Tuesday, April 21, 2020.

He was born in Racine on November 29, 1951, the son of Gerald and Nancy (nee: Konicek) Hougard. He graduated from Racine Lutheran High School in 1969. After high school, Roger served his nation with the US Navy.

At a young age, Roger learned the importance of hard work and dedication working in his family automotive business alongside his father and grandfather. For 25 years, he owned and operated Hougard Mobil Station on 14th and Racine Street. In the latter part of his career, he was as a co-owner of Hougard Auto Parts and most recently worked at Buy Right on Hwy 31.  In 2017, after devoting 45 years in the automotive industry, Roger finally retired.

Roger enjoyed his free time by fishing, golfing, watching NASCAR, rebuilding cars, taking drives by Lake Michigan on Pershing Blvd. and attending as many of his grandchildren’s events and functions as often as possible.

He is survived by his mother, Nancy Hougard of Mount Pleasant; his children, Amy (Greg) Walters of Mount Pleasant, Jason (Jaime) Hougard of Farmington Hills, MI, Rachel Hougard of Mount Pleasant; grandchildren, Cody and Sydney Walters, Ayla and Chase Hougard; his sisters, Cheryl (Rick) Stenzel, Bonny Hougard and Debby (Rob) Cooper all of Mount Pleasant; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.  Roger was preceded in death by his father, Gerald Hougard.

A private service and interment will take place at West Lawn Memorial Park.  A Celebration of Roger’s Life for family and friends to be announced and held at a later date.

Condolences to the family from the surviving members of the Lutheran High School Class of 1969.

Roger you were a great football player, loved to play defense. I still remember a couple of tackles you made against Wayland. May you rest in peace.
