Ruth E. Ferch, age 95, passed away on December 31, 2017, at Brookside Care Center.  Ruth was born in Kenosha on March 12, 1922, to William O. and Frieda (Koellner) Richter.

She attended Friedens School and Bradford High School.  She was united in marriage on July 6, 1946, to Vernon H. Ferch, at Friedens Lutheran Church where she was a lifetime member.  In 1975 Vernon preceded her in death.

Ruth was a homemaker until she began work at Snap-on in accounting.  She retired to take care of her grandson Jason in 1985.  She also volunteered at Kenosha Hospital for almost 30 years.  She loved to bake and was known for her chocolate chip cookies.  She enjoyed reading and knitting.  Her passion was her family.

She is survived by her children, Diane (Robert) Zapf and Gerald (Kim) Ferch; her grandchildren, Jason (Jennifer) Zapf, Mackenzie, Taylor and Hunter Ferch; her great-grandchildren, Rosie and Liam Zapf; her brother-in-law Gerhard Lemke, and many nieces and nephews.

She was also preceded in death by her brothers and sisters-in-law, Harold (Arlean) Richter, Gilbert (Jeannette) Richter, and Russell (Vlasta) Richter.  She also was preceded by her brother-in law and sister-in-law, Ralph (Jean) Ferch and her sister-in-law Myrtle Lemke.

A celebration of Ruth’s life will be held on Monday, January 8, 2018, 10:30am, at Friedens Lutheran Church, 5038 19th Avenue.  Visitation will be from 9:00am until the time of the service.  Burial will follow at Sunset Ridge Memorial Park.  In lieu of flowers, memorials to Friedens Lutheran Church would be appreciated.

The family would like to extend sincere appreciation to the caring staff at Brookside Care Center.  They exhibited both a professional and personal level of compassion and care for Ruth during her stay with them.  A special thanks to her niece, Sharon Groenke, for her continued weekly visits.

Testimonials

October 22, 2015

Bill’s service was beautiful, beyond belief. Leslie was priceless in all she did. Gary, knowing Bill for many years, said a few words at the service. The special touched I didn’t expect warmed my heart. Two very, very special people helped make a sad day into something very special.

Thank you to all those that helped behind the scene, setting up, opening doors. My heart is full.

Bless you.

Helene Hellesen
