Homegoing Service: Tuesday, January 17, 2017

11:00 a.m.  (Also, another visitation 10:00 – 11:00 a.m.)

She was born in Marion, IL on August 17, 1934 to John and Lillie” Davis” Hinton. She was a member of Bethel AME Church. Ruth enjoyed taking piano and singing lessons. She attended Douglas Grade School, and graduated from Marion Township High in 1952.

On August 19th, 1952 she united in marriage to Carl James Harris, and moved to Racine Wisconsin. To this union 11 children were born. Ruth and her children were baptized in the Baptist faith at Greater Mt. Eagle MBC under the leadership of Pastor Charles E. Thornhill. She loved working in the Mission.

Ruth was employed at the Racine Juvenile Detention center for 5 years. She retired from St. Mary’s Medical in 1999 after 18yrs of service. She also attended Racine Tec. College and received a certificate in accounting. She was elected to Board of Directors at The Northside Redevelopment and appointed by a judge to the Board of Family Services. Five years after the death of her husband, she united in marriage to Walter Davidson Sr.

Ruth returned to her home town in Marion, IL and became a member of Paul’s Chapel Baptist Church, under the leadership of Pastor Rodger Holmes. She served in the choir and on the mission board. Now she is serving as Chairman of the Mother Board, under the leadership of Pastor Virgil Walton Sr.

Ruth was a member of the Order of The Eastern Star, Past Worthy Matron, Ruth Chapter #9 OES Prince Hall Affiliated, State of Wisconsin and a member of Assembly # 28 Order of The Golden Circle, Located in The Valley of Milwaukee, State of Wisconsin, and a chartered member of Prince Hall Grand Guild Order of Cyrene Heroines of The Templer Crusade State of Wisconsin.

Ruth JoAnn leaves to cherish her memory 4 sons; Carl “Theresa” Harris Jr. of East Point Michigan, Clint Harris of Racine, Gregory”Alicia” Harris of Racine, Calvin Aaron Harris of Racine Wisconsin, 1 Stepson Walter Davidson Jr. of Milwaukee WI. 3 daughters, Constance ”Elmer” Robinson of Murphysboro, IL, Emiley Harris of Racine, Shirley “Brian Salone” of Marion, IL. 42 grandchildren, 6 step grandchildren, 93 great grandchildren, 8 step great grandchildren, and 6 great-great grandchildren, with 4 pending.

Ruth JoAnn Davidson is preceded in death by her parents, John and Lillie Hinton, first husband, Carl James Harris Sr., Second husband, Walter Davidson Sr., 3 daughters, Lillian Harris, Monica Petty, Deanna Harris, 1 son, Vincent Harris, 1 grandson, Willie Andrew(Boo) Hamilton Jr., 2 great grandsons, Carlos Antionio Harris, Antonio Quantrel Harris, 1 son in law, Bernard Edwards Sr., 3 sisters, Edna Hinton, Betty Hinton, Mabel Cofield, 4 brothers, John Hinton Jr. Aaron C. Hinton, Harry Lee Hinton Sr., Eugene Hinton. She also leaves to cherish a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, sister in law Mrs. Luxola Hinton, and dear friends. Special friends Miss Ann Isaac, Miss. Della Jackson, and Mrs. Alice Barnett all of Marion Il. Special friends of Ruth Chapter #9 OES

Family and friends are invited to meet in the Draeger-Langendorf Funeral Home on Monday evening for a visitation from 5-7 p.m. with an Eastern Star service at 6:45 p.m. The celebration of her life and Homegoing will take place at Greater Mount Eagle Missionary Baptist Church (929 State Street) on Tuesday, January 17, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Keith T. Evans officiating.  There will also be a visitation in the church on Tuesday from 10-11 a.m.  Her interment will take place at Maplewood Cemetery in Marion, Illinois on Thursday at 11:00 a.m.
