Memorial Suggestions

In memory of Syl, make the commitment to pray daily for all your loved ones.

Tucson, AZ (formerly of Racine) – Sylvester Augustine Gorelik, age 69, passed away peacefully at his daughter’s home in Sahuarita, Arizona, surrounded with the love of family, on Monday evening, July 2, 2018 and was welcomed through the Golden Gates of Heaven by his wife, Julie; parents, Justin and Cecilia (nee: Bajtos) Gorelik; and sister, Margie Villegas. Syl died at 5:23 pm – this time signifies in the spiritual text: Thessalonians 5:23 “Now May the God of peace Himself sanctify you completely; and may your whole spirit, soul and body be preserved blameless at the coming of the Lord our Jesus Christ.” This brings peace of knowing that Syl is with the Lord and confirms only that only He knows the end times for each of our lives.

Syl was born in Racine on December 31, 1948 and was a graduate of Washington Park High School. On the beautiful sunny afternoon of May 2, 1981 in the gardens of Wustum Museum, Syl was united in marriage with the love of his life, Julie Ann (nee: Morris) Gorelik, who preceded him in death on April 22, 2014.

Syl was employed by AMC / Chrysler, retiring as an inspector after many years of service. Among his interests, he enjoyed golfing, riding his motorcycle, aerial photography, Green Bay Packers, anything involving nature, playing pool, fishing, watching anything Sci-Fi, and drinking 7 & 7’s. Above all, Syl loved being together with his entire family.

Surviving are his children, Jessy Jensen, Sara (Logan) Hansen, SSgt. Brittany Gorelik (United States Marine Corps) and Sam Gorelik; grandchildren, Jarod Loew, Caleb and Julia Hansen; brothers and sisters, Justin Gorelik, Sissy Peters, Paul (Terri) Gorelik and Michael (Laura) Gorelik; father-in-law, Victor (Karlyn) Morris; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Bob Villegas, Bob Morris, Lynn (Ted) Schattner, Laura (Michael) Gorelik and Roger Poppelman; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends – too numerous to mention by name.

In addition to his wife, parents and sister, Syl was preceded in death by his mother-in-law, Charlotte (nee: Nelson) Morris; and sister-in-law, Cathy Poppelman.

Funeral services will be held in Draeger-Langendorf Funeral Home at 11:00 am on Thursday, July 12, 2018, with Rev. Mark R. Jones officiating. Interment will be in Mound Cemetery and a reception will follow. Visitation will be in the funeral home on Wednesday evening from 6:00 – 8:00 pm and Thursday from 10:00 – 11:00 am.
