Ted Alan Cohen

May 8, 1983 – Mar 23, 2007

Ted Alan Cohen, 23, passed away unexpectedly following an automobile accident in Milwaukee on Friday, March 23, 2007. Ted was born in Racine on Mother’s Day, May 8, 1983, the son of Lee and Nancy (nee: Stempe) Cohen. Ted received his Prepatory Plumbing Degree from MATC on May 21, 2002. He then worked for Feiner Plumbing Company for one and a half years. Lately, he had been employed by Mainstream Records. Ted enjoyed his music and his Apple computer. He used both to make c.d.s and often performed as a D.J. with his music. He loved sailing and often crewed on Lake Michigan. Ted competed in the Dragon Boat Races. His pride and joy was his Volkswagen, which he customized and showed. Surviving are his mother, Nancy Cohen and his sister Kristen Cohen whom he dearly loved; his aunts and uncles, Mary (James) Dengel of West Bend, Susan (Don) Tempesta, and Jon Stempe all of Racine, Jane (Cliff) Grevstad of Burnsville, MN, and Lynne Cohen and her husband Andrew Lugg of Montreal, Canada, and his very special friend Megan Clausen of Racine. Ted is further survived by his cousins, other relatives and a host of friends. Ted was preceded in death by his father Lee Cohen, and his grandparents Grace and Stanley Stempe and Lester and Sophie Cohen. A Memorial Service honoring Ted’s life will be celebrated in the funeral home on Tuesday, March 27th, at 7:00 p.m., with Rev. Mark R. Jones officiating. Relatives and friends can meet with the family from 6:00 p.m. until the time of the Service. In lieu of flowers memorials can be directed to the family who will establish an appropriate memorial at a later date.

We didn۪t get to see Ted very often because we live so far way. But we especially remember a couple of our visits. When Ted was very young we brought him a children۪s version of Chaucer۪s Canterbury Tales. We۪ll never forget Ted۪s infectious laughter after reading an episode. We also remember seeing him several years ago in Chicago (Nancy, Lee, Kris and Ted often met us for lunch in Chicago when we were visiting aunts and uncles). Ted and Lee bantered jokes back and forth and it was great to see things from their amusing angle. We also saw Ted some two years ago under such sad conditions when Lee was struggling for his life and a short time later at Lee۪s funeral. Since then we only managed to travel to Chicago once. That was two weeks ago and it was lucky for us that Nancy and Ted were able to meet us for lunch with his father’s aunt and uncles. It is hard to believe Ted is no longer here, that his short life has been taken away so unexpectedly. It makes us very sad.

I didnt know tedward very long, hung out with him on probably more than several occassions thru VW’s and it still hits hard. I couldnt believe it when I heard about this and it seems still hard to believe now. Its very sad to see a good person die that young. May God be with his family friends who miss him very dearly. RIP bro man. <3

Teddy & I met at WCTC 2 years ago as apprentices in the plumbing program. Being the two loners in the class, (not because we were uncool, we just didn’t care enough to talk to the farmboys and a**holes), we naturally hit it off. School suddenly wasn’t that bad. Sharing our lunch hour and goofin’ off at nite school, we got to know each other very well, very quick. After a year, Tedd lost his position at work which forced him out of the plbg. program. I was bummed! He told me later on that he always felt that he let me down. I always told him not to sweat it, bigger & better things waiting for him. Our way of compensating for that was hangin’ out with him as much as I could, and still maintain my family life. (It wasn’t easy!)
We had many things in common. Music, Lulu’s Cafe, VWs, and more music.
Teddy was wise beyond his years, had numerous talents, and a way about him that could make anyone he had just met, feel like they’ve known him for years.
Teddy, I’ll always cherish that last night we “kicked it”, and how you used to put up with my “poor me” bulls**t. I miss you so much, yo! I’ll never forget you, my brother!
My deepest sympathies to his family.
    BOOYAKASHA! Matt

    Dear Nancy and Chris,
I am so sorry about Ted. My mom always tells me wonderful stories about her visits with you. It doesn’t seem fair for this to have happened. My thoughts and prayers are with you.
    With love,

Like the cheshire cat’s, Ted’s grin will always be with me. We know he was grinning about things we did not know or see, didn’t we. But, he shared often.
Remember that of him and count yourself special.

I just can’t get over how beautiful everything was for my mom’s funeral. She had a rough last four weeks but your amazing team totally did her justice! I was pretty confused during that hard time, but Brian, you made sure that all the “I”s were dotted and all the “T”s crossed. For that, I thank you. I also would like to thank the amazing team of makeup artists. My mom looked beautiful.
