Racine – Verna J. Hansen, age 86, passed away peacefully at Ascension – All Saints Hospital on Sunday, October 9, 2016.

Verna was born in Moline, Illinois on June 4, 1930 to the late George and Alice (nee: Cady) Schuette. On September 24, 1949 in First Evangelical Lutheran Church, she was united in marriage with Lawrence L. Hansen.

Among her interests, she enjoyed crossword puzzles, reading novels, watching television spoiling her dogs and, above all, making her husband happy. She loved and cherished spending time with her entire family.

Surviving are her husband of 67 years, Lawrence; their son and daughter-in-law, Deacon Keith (Gloria) Hansen; grandchildren, Christopher Ryan (Toni) Hansen and Eric Jonathan (Laura) Hansen; great-grandchildren, Kevin, Jessica, Jack and Roman Hansen; sister, Nina (Ron) Hansen; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Ginny Nelson, Edith Miller, Richard Hansen, Ron (Nina) Hansen and Marge Johnson; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Verna was preceded in death by her father, George Schuette; mother, Alice Nelson; grandson, Brian Keith Hansen; sister, Marion (Carl Conner, Myron “Mike” Nass) Nass; brother, Robert Nelson; sisters-in-law, Shirley (Sam) Gascoigne and Lois (Richard) Johnson; and brother-in-law, Lee Johnson.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, October 14, 2016, at 11:00 am in chapel of West Lawn Memorial Park, 9000 Washington Avenue, with Deacon Jim Zdeb officiating. Interment will follow. Visitation will be in the chapel of West Lawn Memorial Park on Friday from 10-11 am. Memorials to the Salvation Army has been suggested.

A heartfelt note of thanks to the staff at Ascension – All Saints Hospital for the compassionate care and support given in Verna’s time of need. Especially ICU staff, Nurses Deana, Eric and Nurse-Practitioner Mike.
