Racine – Victor C. Gabbey, 86, passed away on Wednesday, March 29, 2017 at the Aurora Medical Center in Kenosha. He was born in Racine on February 17, 1931, son of the late William and Mary (nee: Paulsen) Gabbey. Victor graduated from Park High School, and spent 42 years working at Webster Electric.
On June 26, 1957 he was married in St. Lucy Catholic Church to Edith A. Fumo. Victor was proud of his German and Danish heritage, but quickly assimilated into Edith’s Italian family, and was adored by her parents, Lorenzo and Concetta Fumo. He was always happiest with her at his side. Victor enjoyed golf and fishing, being up north, and spending time with his grandchildren.
He is survived by his children, Suzanne Gabbey, Lawrence (Vicki) Gabbey both of Racine and Michael (Tricia Hanson) Gabbey of Wind Lake; grandchildren, Stephanie Gabbey, Adam Gabbey, Benjamin Gabbey and Elizabeth Gabbey; sisters-in-law, Mary Fumo and Rose Fumo of Mount Pleasant, and Mary Wicklund of Racine; as well as other relatives and friends. He was also preceded in death by his beloved wife, Edith Gabbey; brothers, Les Gabbey, Dick Gabbey, Bob Gabbey, John Gabbey, and Howard Gabbey.
Family and friends are invited to meet in the funeral home on Saturday, April 8, 2017 for a visitation from 9:00am – 10:30am. A service remembering and celebrating his life will follow at 10:30am. A private interment will take place at Holy Cross Cemetery Mausoleum in Caledonia. In lieu of flowers, it has been suggested to bring a non-perishable food item to be donated to the Racine County Food Bank.
Victor’s family extends a heartfelt thank you to the staff at Aurora Medical Center’s ICU for the compassionate attention and care provided to Victor and our family.
