
WALTER J. FIESCHKO RACINE – Walter Fieschko (formerly of Milwaukee) passed away unexpectedly at Kenosha Care Nursing Facility on Sunday, February 12, 2006, at the age of 89. He was born in Menominee, Michigan on July 22, 1916. He spent his childhood in Racine, attending elementary school at St. Edward’s Parish and graduating from Washington Park High School. On August 11, 1947 he married Josephine Marchese and remained married until her death in 1991. He resided in Milwaukee for 57 years. Mr. Fieschko worked as an engineer in the research and development department at Young Radiator Company in Racine until his early retirement to care for his wife. During World War II, he held the position of Technician Fourth Grade Headquarter Battery, 133rd Field Artillery Observation Battalion in the U.S. Army. He survived many notable engagements with the enemy, including the Battle of the Bulge. He was awarded the European African Middle Eastern Service Medal, the Good Conduct Medal, the World War II Victory Medal, and the American Service Medal. Mr. Fieschko was an officer and active member of the American Legion, Post 219, and participated in a great deal of veterans-related volunteer work at the Milwaukee Veteran’s Hospital and other veterans’ installations and events. He is survived by loving family; his sisters, Bertha Fieschko and Mary Koneske, both of Racine, and his brother Joseph Fieschko of San Rafael, California. He is further survived, and will be greatly missed, by many nieces and nephews, throughout the United States; from Florida to California, including; Dr. Julie Fieschko (Keller) of Lebanon, Pennsylvania, Joseph Fieschko, Jr. of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, John Fieschko of Manlius, New York, Heidi Fieschko of Oak Park, Illinois, Gretchen Fieschko (Van Cantfort) of San Rafael, California, and Frank Fieschko Jr. of Janesville, Wisconsin. He is also survived by his loving step-grandchildren; Michael Marchese of Greenfield, Wisconsin, Catherine Ellingboe of Pewaukee, Mary Marchese of Cudahy, and Josie Marchese of Milwaukee. Walter Fieschko was proceeded in death by his parents Julia Adesko Fieschko and Boleslaw Fieschko, and his siblings, Frank, John, Theodore and Sophia. Services will take place at the Chapel at Mt. Olivet Cemetery, 3801 W. Morgan, Milwaukee on Tuesday, February 14 at 11:00AM, with burial thereafter. In lieu of flowers, the family suggest donations be made to St. Edward’s Parish, Racine.
