William Thomas Becker

Apr 18, 1939 – Jul 10, 2014

MOUNT PLEASANT – Mr. William T. Becker, 75, passed away at home on Thursday, July 10, 2014.

Bill was born in Chicago, IL on April 18, 1939, the son of the late William J. and Agnes (nee: McGarry) Becker.   Bill earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting from Portland University.    On June 1, 1974 he married Patti B. DeGraw.  They lived in Minneapolis, MN, Rockford and Decatur, IL and Lafayette, IN before settling in Mt. Pleasant.

Bill retired from JI Case Corporation as Director of Corporate Real Estate on December 31, 2000 after 27 years of service. Although he will be remembered as an avid golfer and card player, Bill was happiest when in the company of his family and friends.  He was a loving husband, father and brother and was a devoted friend who could always be counted upon.  Bill will be dearly missed by those who knew and loved him.

In addition to his wife, Patti, of Mount Pleasant, Bill is survived by his daughters and son, Tara (Byram Ozer) Becker of Los Angeles, Bridget (Greg) Bach of Milwaukee, Conan Becker of San Francisco; his sisters and brother, Denise (Chuck) Roemer of South Bend, IN, Lourdene (Richard DiFalco) Haley of Portland, OR; Thomas (Jane) Becker of Chautauqua, NY; dear friends, Betty Ultsch and Sam Hopkins as well as many dear nieces and nephews.

Family and friends are invited to meet in the Draeger-Langendorf Funeral Home on Wednesday, July 16, 2014 for a visitation from 10-11 a.m.   A service honoring and celebrating Bill’s life will follow at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Mark R. Jones officiating.   In lieu of flowers, memorials have been suggested to Chautauqua Institution, P.O. Box 28, · One Ames Ave. • Chautauqua, N.Y. 14722  |  1.800.836.ARTS -www.ciweb.org.

The Becker family is very grateful for Dr. Steven Johnson and WFH – Hospice for the loving and professional attention that Bill received while under their care.

My deepest sympathy goes to your family. Bill was a great man who I will always remember as my poker buddy. I will miss him and his smile on Tuesdays at Scores.

Bill did not just live life: he illuminated life for us all! He was a brilliant shooting star flashing across the sky, leaving kindness and wit as his calling cards. We are so lucky to have known and felt his generosity of spirit. He will always be with us in the ways that count and that make us better than we thought possible.

Please except this expression of warm sympathy regarding the death of your loved one. The bible makes this promise: And he will wipe out every tear from their eyes, and death will be no more, neither outcry nor pain, the former things have passed away۝ (Re. 21:4,5) May the “God of all comfort” be with you and may you find peace in the wonderful resurrection hope.(John 5: 28,29)
