Zannie Lee McClain (nee: Gilliam) {80} received the promise of eternal life on Tuesday, October 17th 2017 surrounded by her family. She was born on April 3, 1937 in Red Hill, Mississippi to Willie and Birdie (nee: McGee) Gilliam.
Zannie moved to Racine in 1951 and was united in holy matrimony to Curtis McClain on August 10th, 1954. Together their life was blessed with seven children.
She was a faithful employee at Clayton House in Racine, WI for many years.
Zannie enjoyed life to the fullest and was a faithful member of Searching Together Baptist Church, serving on the Mother’s Board.
Zannie’s greatest joy was her children and grandchildren. In her spare time, she was an avid gamer and loved cooking.
Zannie will be dearly missed by her children: Kenneth, Melvin of Toledo OH, Tonga, Reginald, Zandra, Dana, and Deneen of Racine. Gerald, Jarrod, Anthony, and Reginald Jr. McClain, whom she raised as her own children. A host of Grandchildren: James Moten Jr., Duane (DJ) Jr., Travis, De Andre’, Meltrice of Toledo OH, Jasmine, Zandria, Kirretta, Breanne, Marcus, Melvin Jr. of Toledo OH, Jerry Jr., Diamond, and Elijah McClain of Toledo OH; alongside a host of Great-Grandchildren.
Three sisters: Coren (Jimmie) McWhorter, Willie Mae Gilliam and Velma (Tom) Pegues. Three brothers: Willie (Barbara) Whiteside, Murl and Earl Monroe. Special Cousin Hayzell Norman, Special adopted daughter, Dora Moten, and Special friend Mother Josephine Wilson, besides a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Curtis McClain Sr. Parents; Willie and Birdie (nee: McGee). Sons; Duane and Kirby McClain. Sisters; Modenia (Otha) Miller, Parthenia (Wiley) Johnson, and Pearl Harris. Two brothers; Luther McGee and Willie B. Gilliam Jr.
Family and friends are invited to meet at Searching Together Baptist Church (825 21st Street) on Friday, October 27, 2017 for a visitation and viewing from 10:00 -11:00 a.m. A service celebrating Zannie’s life and Homegoing will take place at 11:00 a.m. Her interment will follow at Graceland Cemetery.
A special acknowledgement to all the Doctors and Nurses at Wheaton Franciscan Healthcare who worked and cared for Zannie, along with the Grace Hospice Nurses and Nurses aids Kim, Keith, and others.
