Russell G. Jandl

vet
Mar 27, 1926 – Jun 9, 2011

Racine- Russell G. Jandl, 85, passed away peacefully at Ridgewood Care Center on Thursday, June 9, 2011 after suffering a stroke in November of 2009.

A lifetime resident, Russ was born in Racine on March 27, 1926 to the late Charles and Edythe (nee: Ernie) Jandl. Following graduation from William Horlick High School, he faithfully served our Country with the United States Navy aboard LST-863 in the Pacific Theatre during WWII.

On November 13, 1948 in Waukegan, IL, Russ was united in marriage with the love of his life, Lorraine B. (nee: Egtvedt). He was employed by Matagrano’s Beer Distributors and Lakeshore Distributing Company for over 50 years, retiring at age 70. After a brief retirement, Russ went to work for O&H Bakery as a driver until age 80. Among his interests, he enjoyed gardening; spending time in the great outdoors – especially fishing and hunting; and watching sports – especially his favorite Wisconsin teams of the Brewers, Bucks, Packers, Badgers and Marquette Golden Eagles. In his younger years, Russ was an avid bowler and was an extremely talented left-handed softball player who played on several championship teams. Above all, Russ loved and cherished being in the surroundings of his entire family.

Surviving are his loving wife of nearly 63 years, Lorraine; their children, Diana (Paul) Wilson, Thomas Jandl and David Jandl; grandchildren, Daniel (Lori) Wilson, Kimberly (Jeff) Grooters, Kristy Wilson, Dawn Puketa, Dale (Samantha) Wilson; great-grandchildren, Randi Wilson, Justin Grooters, Kaitlynn Grooters, Kennidi Grooters, Tyler Puketa and Jacob Puketa; great-great-grandchildren, Jacob, Leo and Payton; sister, Darlene Meinert; sister-in-law, Bea Jandl; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends too numerous to mention by name.

In addition to his parents, Russ was preceded in death by his sister, June (Bob) Patterson; brothers, Floyd Jandl, Charles (Dorothy) Jandl and Robert (Corrine) Jandl; and by Lorraine’s parents, Surnce “Gil” and Ida (nee: Meyer) Egtvedt.-

Funeral services will be held in the Draeger-Langendorf Funeral Home on Tuesday, June 14, 2011 at 6 pm with Rev. Susan K. Smith officiating. Military honors and a reception will follow. Visitation will be in the funeral home on Tuesday from 4-6 pm. Private interment will take place at the S. Wisconsin Veterans Memorial Cemetery. In memory of Russ, memorials to Emmanuel Lutheran Church has been suggested.

A heartfelt note of thanks to Dr. Richard Clark and Ridgewood Care Center for the compassionate care and support given in our time of need. May God bless all of you!
