Glenn E. Sherwood

vet
Nov 5, 1925 – May 10, 2013

Glenn E. Sherwood, 87, passed away in the Ridgewood Care Center on Friday, May 10, 2013. He was born in Racine on November 5, 1925, the son of the late Everett and Ella (nee: Botting) Sherwood.

Mr. Sherwood served his country with the U.S. Air Force and served the City of Racine as a firefighter for over 25 years until retiring in 1986. He was an active member of Epiphany Lutheran Church where he served as an usher and on church council. Glenn also played darts on a church league for numerous years and stayed on the team as their score-keeper when he could no longer play. He was a member of the City of Racine 20 Year Club, the Firefighters Local #321, and an avid fan of the Milwaukee Brewers and Green Bay Packers. Above all, Glenn enjoyed his family, taking special enjoyment in all of his grandchildren and great-grandchild.

Surviving are his loving wife of 60 years, Jacqueline, their daughters, Lynn Hanks, and Cynthia (Peter) Dreckmann, 4 grandchildren, Amy (Greg) McNutt, Matthew Hanks, Daniel Dreckmann, and Ashley Dreckmann, great grandson, Aiden McNutt, and sister, Marjorie Schneider, all of Racine. His nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends also survive him.

His funeral service will be held in Epiphany Lutheran Church, 2921 Olive St., on Wednesday, May 15th, at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Michael Zarling officiating. Visitation will be IN THE CHURCH on Tuesday, from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. and on Wednesday, from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service. Burial, with full military honors, will follow in West Lawn Memorial Park. The family has suggested memorials to Epiphany Lutheran Church.

Sincere thanks to Hospice Alliance for their compassionate care. A special heartfelt thanks to Cassie, William and Ashley and all the staff at Ridgewood Care Center for their dedication and care.

Michael,

First, let me start out by saying you were a God sent working with me for many years in preparations for my mom’s Homegoing Celebration December 7, 2024.  Even though this was our first time meeting in person, I felt like I already knew you.  Michael, you demonstrated  professionalism, empathy and, your warmth was surprising for me considering your role as a Funeral Director. Your attention to every detail, patient and support has made this process much easier for my family and me. I trusted you and you helped me find closure in a moment of great sadness, and for that we’re eternally grateful. I appreciate the time and energy you put into ensuring everything ran smoothly considering I reside in a different state.  Michael, my mom would have loved you and our family is forever grateful for your unwavering dedication and support during our season of grief.  May the Lord make His face shine upon you, and be gracious to you. (Numbers 6:25)
