Harry George Fischer, Sr.

vet
Nov 16, 1928 – Jun 18, 2013

MOUNT PLEASANT – Mr. Harry G. Fischer, 84, passed away at his home on June 18, 2013 surrounded by his loving family.

He was born in Rhinelander, WI on November 16, 1928, the son of the late Richard and Theresa (nee: Gohlke) Fischer.  On August 1, 1953 he married Jean Miller at Holy Name Catholic Church.

Mr. Fischer served his nation with the US Navy from 1948-52.  His duty was aboard the USS Coral Sea.  He retired from Johnson Wax in 1988 after 34 years of employment.  Mr. Fischer also worked part time as an insurance agent for Catholic Knights and Jackson National.

He was a longtime member of Holy Name and St. Richard Catholic Church.   Mr. Fischer was an avid fisherman that also enjoyed gardening, hunting and storytelling.  He was happiest however in the company of his family, especially his grandchildren.

In addition to his wife, Jean Fischer, he is survived by his children, Michael Fischer, Sr., Harry (Karen) Fischer, Jr., Julie Becker, Ann (Dan) Lawson, Denise (Jon) Lescak, Peggy (Keith) Bradley, Jane (Paul) Shebeneck; his grandchildren, Michael Fischer, Jr., Brian (Olena) Fischer, Laura (Rob) Rashleger, Lindsay and Maggie Becker, Harrison and Catherine Lescak, Ricky and Robert Bradley, Molly and Kaysie Shebeneck; his step grandchildren, Kayla and Heather DeBruin; his great grandchildren, Jackson, Natalie, Abigail; step great grandchildren, Nakiya and Paxton; his brother, Richard Fischer; as well as other relatives.  He was also preceded in death by his brothers and sisters.

Family and friends are invited to meet for a visitation on Thursday evening, June 20, 2013 at St. Richard of Chichester Catholic Church (1509 Grand Ave.) from 4-6 p.m.  A private memorial Mass for his immediate family will take place at a later date.  His cremains will be interred at the Southern Wisconsin Veterans Memorial Cemetery.  In lieu of flowers, memorials have been suggested to St. Richard of Chichester Catholic Church.

The Fischer family extends their gratitude to Dr. David Calderwood and Dr. Young Choi as well as their staffs for the loving and professional attention Harry received while under their care.

Very sorry to hear about Uncle Harry. I remember him as a quiet man who always carried a smile on his face. It was great to learn more about him in the article. I had no idea he was a Navy Veteran!

My parents told me of your kindness, generosity, and servitude when we lost my brother. They needed that strength and your light came through. Thank you.
