George William Emmrich

vet
Nov 28, 1919 – Aug 27, 2014

Racine – George William Emmrich, age 94, passed away peacefully at the Elder Care Cottages in Waterford on Wednesday evening, August 27, 2014.

George was born in Milwaukee, WI on November 28, 1919. After graduating from high school, he faithfully served our Country with the United States Army Air Force during WWII. During his time in service, George was united in marriage with Martha (nee: Latzko) in New Hyde, NY on November 25, 1944. She died on March 2, 1996.

George was employed by the Ladish Co. in Cudahy for 32 years. He lived in the Racine / Milwaukee area for most of his life until retiring to Woodruff, WI in 1982. As a lover of the Northwoods, George remained in Woodruff / Minocqua area, only moving back to Racine this past March when his health began to fail.

George was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church (while in Racine – St. Rita’s & St. Mary’s by the Lake), Knights of Columbus Council #3557 and the American Legion Post 89 – all of Minocqua. Among his interests, George enjoyed fishing, gardening and occasionally liked to relax with an “ice cold beverage”. Above all, George loved being in the surroundings of his entire family and close circle of friends.

Surviving are his children, Phyllis Schmitt of New Port Richey, FL; Andrew (Cinda) Emmrich, Robert (Christina) Emmrich and Charlotte (Ron) Lovdahl, all of Racine; grandchildren, Juanita (Phil) Johnson, Jackie (Kent) Neale, Joseph Castillo, Brian Emmrich, Jaime (Brad) Treichel, Greg (Kim) Emmrich, Tom Emmrich, Chris Wronkowski, Samuel (Bianca) Lovdahl and Bonnie Montey; 15 great-grandchildren; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

George was preceded in death by his parents, Otto Emmrich and Martha (nee: Petersdorf) Lutz; wife, Martha Emmrich; brothers, Carl (Joyce) Emmrich and Raymond Emmrich; sisters, Luella (Ted) Fischer, Lydia (Edward) Walton and Caroline (Joe) Simchick; and son-in-law, Warren Schmitt.

Funeral services, with military honors, will be held in the Draeger-Langendorf Funeral Home on Tuesday, September 2, 2014 at 6:00 pm with Rev. Cary J. Wynn officiating. A memorial dinner will follow. Visitation will be in the funeral home on Tuesday from 4:00 – 6:00 pm. Private interment will take place in Holy Family Cemetery. In memory of George, memorials to the Blind Veterans Association of Wisconsin have been suggested.

A heartfelt note of thanks to everyone at Elder Care Cottages in Waterford for the compassionate care and support given in George’s time of need. May God bless all of you!
