John DuWayne Nelson

~~RACINE – John DuWayne Nelson, beloved husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, passed away peacefully on October 17, 2015.

John was born in Racine, Wisconsin, on April 3, 1925, the youngest child of Bertram and May (Olson) Nelson.  After graduating from Washington Park High School in 1943, he joined the Army and served with the 547th Anti-Aircraft Artillery Battalion during World War II.  After the war he married Frances Eagan on January 18, 1947 and attended the UW-Madison.  After graduation John and Fran settled in Racine and raised five children.  John was employed by Jacobsen as an accountant for 35 years.  John was an avid golfer and enjoyed playing bridge.  John and Fran retired to Fairfield Bay, Arkansas, in 1990 where John enjoyed life on the 18th fairway and made the most of every opportunity to ‘hit the links’.

John was active in the Racine Lions Club, the Fairfield Bay Rotary Club and served on the Racine Water & Wastewater Commission.  John was an active member of Holy Communion Lutheran Church in Racine and Peace Lutheran Church in Fairfield Bay.  John and Fran moved back to Racine in 2013.

John is survived by his children, John (Jackie) Nelson of Ft. Lauderhill, FL, Robin (Jim) Lindbloom of Chicago, IL, Andrew Nelson of Seattle, WA, Susan Wilear of Charlotte, NC, and Matthew (Jeanne) Nelson of Madison, WI; seven grandchildren, Tighe, Alisa, Heidi, Erica, Kristin, Mitchell and Ashley; seven great-grandchildren, Taylor, Ian, Katie, Ryan, Nathan, Brynn and Caden.
John was preceded in death by his father, Bertram Nelson, mother, May Nelson, sister, Beverly Krueger, and Brothers-in-law, William Krueger and Lawrence Eagan.
Funeral services will be held at Holy Communion Lutheran Church, 2000 West Sixth Street, in Racine on Thursday, October 22, 2015, at 1:00 with Pastor Laura Fladten officiating.    Visitation will be prior to the service from, 12:00 – 1:00, with a reception to follow.  Memorial donations can be made to the Holy Communion Lutheran Church food pantry, 2000 West Sixth Street, Racine, WI 53405-2624 or to your favorite charitable organization.
