Delbert F. Goebel

vet
Apr 3, 1928 – Jan 14, 2016

Racine – Delbert F. Goebel, 87, passed away at All Saints Hospital on January 14, 2016. He was born in Racine on April 3, 1928, the son of the late Reinhold and Laura (nee: Gregory) Goebel. On April 7, 1951 he was united in matrimony to Mary Margaret Faucette in St. Mary's Catholic Church. Delbert was a veteran of the US Army and a graduate of Marquette University.

Delbert had a long career as a teacher and guidance counselor beginning at St. Catherine's High School, and continuing at Horlick High School and Case High School before retiring in 1999. In addition to teaching he coached football, basketball, and girls softball. He enjoyed spending summers at his cottage up north, and his free time at home playing sheepshead and cribbage, and watching the Cubs and Packers play.

Delbert is survived by his wife, Mary Goebel;  his daughters, Gretchen (William) Zupek,  Becky Goebel,  Mary Louise (Jim) May,  Catherine (Colin) Barfoot,  Paula (Paul) Magnuson, and Anne (Tim) Foster;  grandchildren, Matthew (Dejah Lang) Zupek,  Kevin Barfoot,  Sophia Foster, and Augustus Foster;  sisters-in-law, Betty Goebel, and Jane (Bob) Lehman;  as well as other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his grandson, Joel Barfoot; his brother, Gordon Goebel; and sister, Jane (Bob) Westrich.

A mass of Christian burial will be held in St. Edwards Catholic Church at 12 noon on Wednesday January 20, 2016 with Rev. Allen Bratkowski officiating.  Interment and military honors will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery in Caledonia. Visitation will be held in the church from 10:30 a.m. until the time of the mass. Please consider donations in his memory to the Wisconsin Humane Society or to the charity of your choice.

Our deepest thanks are extended to the staff at Wheaton Franciscan All Saints hospital and especially to those in the intensive care unit who cared for Delbert. Your kindness and compassion did not go unnoticed by his family, and you will always be in our prayers.

My deepest condolences to your family. I worked with Del at Case H.S.for many years. He liked to pretend to be gruff on the outside but he had a heart bigger than anyone I’ve ever known. And I know how proud he was of his “girls “.

Testimonials

May 24, 2018

I can’t express my gratitude enough to Mike and the Draeger-Langendorf staff for such great service provided to us, as we made arrangements to lay our brother to rest. You all went above and beyond to make sure we understood every detail there was to know, from the greatest to the smallest. When we walked out of your office, we walked out with peace, knowing that our brother was in good hands. Thank you Mike for adding that special touch to my brother’s service, that’s the kind of stuff that separates you all from the rest. Once again Thank you so much.
