Ralph Charles Perkins

Nov 21, 1933 – Oct 6, 2008

Racine- Ralph C. Perkins, 74, passed away peacefully at home, while sleeping in his recliner, on Monday, October 6, 2008. A lifetime resident, Ralph was born in Racine on November 21, 1933 to the late Roy and Esther (nee: Haas) Perkins. He faithfully served our Country with the United States Marine Corps. On April 12, 1958, he was united in marriage with Verna Mae Schmidt, who preceded him in death on November 18, 1999. At age 13, Ralph began his long career at Young Radiator by working part-time. Years later, he became full-time as a punch press operator at Young where he was employed for over 40 years – until the company moved out of Racine. In his spare time, Ralph was an avid hunter and fisherman. More than anything, he loved being in the surroundings of his entire family. Surviving are his sons, Jay Perkins of Racine and Kent Perkins of Madison; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Gary Beiley, Alyce Meyers, Murriel Schmidt, Peggy (Clinton) Adam, Frances Gramer, Floyd Kummer and Ruby Rath; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. In addition to his parents and wife, Ralph was preceded in death by his sister, Bernadette “Bunny” Beiley; brother, Ronald “Jim” Perkins; Verna’s parents, Rubin and Bertha (nee: Hieb) Schmidt; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Wally Meyers, Harold Schmidt, Edna Kummer and Elmer Rath. Funeral services will be held in the funeral home on Saturday, October 11, 2008 at 10 am with Rev. Jeffrey M. Thielen officiating. Interment will follow in Holy Family Cemetery on Hwy 31. Visitation will be in the funeral home on Saturday from 9-10 am. In memory of Ralph, memorials to the American Cancer Society or American Heart Association have been suggested.
