Esther “Sally” Fries

Feb 13, 1915 – Oct 10, 2008

Esther “Sally” Fries, 93, affectionately known to her family as “Shammie”, passed away in the Harbor House-Walnut Grove on Friday, October 10, 2008. She was born in Waterford, WI on February 13, 1915, the daughter of the late Anthony and Katherine (nee: Ruetz) Stratman. On October 28, 1944, she married Jacob Fries in the Holy Name Rectory. He preceded her in death on December 16, 1986. Mrs. Fries worked for Oster Manufacturing and the United States Post Office. She was a member of St. Richard of Chichester Catholic Church, the Christian Mothers, the V.F.W. Auxiliary # 1391 and an honorary member of NARFC. She was a fan of all sports and enjoyed working puzzles. Surviving are her “daughter” Catherine Orth LaPoint and her husband A.J.; special “grandson,” Kevin Orth and his wife Jennifer and their children Gabriella and Jonathan; special “granddaughter,” Kelly Tanem and her husband, Michael and their children, Jackson, Anderson and Ellieson; special nephew, Donald Mano and his wife Christine and their children Matthew (Abby), Brian and his fiancée, Mary Knigge and David; sister, Norma Sorenson and numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. In addition to her parents and her husband, she was preceded in death by 2 sisters and 3 brothers, Margaret Mano, Jeanne Petrovic, Charles, William and Alfred Stratman. Her Funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. in St. Richard of Chichester Catholic Church, 15th and Grand Ave. on Wednesday, October 15, 2008 with Rev. Allen Bratkowski officiating. Visitation will be in the church on Wednesday from 9:00 a.m. until the time of the Mass. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery. The family has suggested memorials to either St. Richard of Chichester Catholic Church or St. Catherine’s High School. The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to Hospice Alliance, Harbor House-Walnut Grove especially Denise and Danielle for their kind, gentle and loving ways.
