Sep 12, 1923 – Jul 16, 2009

Mrs. Helen L. Krummel, 85, died at her residence on Thursday, July 16, 2009. A lifelong resident of Racine, she was born on September 12, 1923 to the late Albert and Cora (nee: Christensen) Murray. Mrs. Krummel graduated from St. Catherine’s High School. On November 6, 1948, she married the love of her life, James M. Krummel at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church. For the past 30 years, they have been members at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Throughout the years, Mrs. Krummel worked as a secretary for a number of employers, including, Western Printing, Stewart, Peyton, Crawford, Crawford and Stutt Law Office, and the Benstead Foundation. A woman with many interests, she enjoyed playing the organ and piano, golfing in various women’s leagues, daily swims with her husband at the Y, followed by breakfast at the diner, and traveling around the world. From Europe to Asia, she, along with Jim, ventured on over 15 major trips together. Above all, she was happiest in the surroundings of her family. Mrs. Krummel was a proud Girl Scout leader and treasured the many camping, downhill skiing and swimming outings throughout the years with those dearest to her. In addition to her husband Jim, of almost 61 years, she is survived by her children, Dr. Tom (Susie) Krummel of Los Altos, CA, Bill Krummel of Racine, Dr. Steve (Rosemary) Krummel of Manitowoc, WI, Sue (Larry) Rothering of Franklin, WI; grandchildren, Katie, Maggie and Allie Krummel, Quinn, Killian and Claire Krummel, Paul and Sam Rothering; brothers-in-law, Bob (Margaret) Krummel of Kenosha, George Hnilicka of Racine; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and many dear friends. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Krummel’s sisters, Patricia Murray, Irene Hnilicka and Dorothy Briggs preceded her in death. Family and friends are invited to meet at Sacred Heart Catholic Church (2201 Northwestern Ave.) on Monday, July 20, 2009 at 10:30 a.m. for the celebration of her life and funeral mass with Rev. Ronald O. Crewe officiating. There will be a visitation in the funeral home on Sunday afternoon from 3-5 p.m. and again in the church on Monday from 9:00 until 10:15 a.m. A private interment will take place at the Southern Wisconsin Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Union Grove. Memorials in Mrs. Krummel’s name have been suggested to either St. Catherine’s High School, Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Wheaton Franciscan Healthcare Foundation or favorite charity. The Krummel family wishes to thank Dr. Paul Durbin and his staff for kindness, care and friendship extended to them during Helen’s illness. May God bless you.
